The position is responsible for promoting a high quality learning environment by working with program staff and parents to support the emotional and behavioral well-being of all Early Head Start and Head Start children. Incorporate prevention and intervention activities to engender capacity building among staff in the application of evidenced-based practices to improve children's social and emotional functioning. Uphold the Mission, Vision and Core values of MAC including exemplary internal and external customer service, team work, and treatment of all persons with respect, dignity and compassion. ***Extensive Background Checks are performed on applicants for Metro Action Commission.*** Typical Duties + Provide classroom-based mental health consultation and coaching. + Facilitate positive behavior support in Head Start/Early Head Start. + Conduct classroom observations and utilize the data to plan behavior management strategies. + Coordinate and conduct assessments of child behavior. + Collaborate with program staff and parents to develop behavior intervention plans. + Apply proven models to reduce challenging behaviors. + Assist teachers with establishing an environment that focuses on building positive relationships. + Establish and maintain the program Social Emotional and Behavior Support (SEBS) team. + Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of child progress. + Engage parents in the "behavior intervention plan" process and support parents by offering them opportunities to acquire skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their children. + Review behavior referrals and center data reports. + Monitor classrooms for adherence to behavior management strategies. + Attend center meetings and parent-teacher conferences + Ensure safe environments for children exhibiting inappropriate behavior. + Work closely with the mental health provider to augment service delivery to children exhibiting inappropriate behavior. + Work in partnership with the Disabilities/Mental Health (D/MH) Coordinator to develop and implement systems that promote social, emotional and behavioral outcomes. + Provide program staff and families with resources. + Attend IEP and IFSP meetings in the absence of the Disabilities/Mental Health Coordinator. + Work with parents in planning for children's individual needs. + Conduct home visits to parents and accompany program staff on home visits. + Assist program staff with creating and maintaining a positive climate for children. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Learning and Behavior Analysis, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience working with young children identified with behavioral challenges. Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Experience in performing classroom observations and developing behavior modification plans. + Proven success with teacher coaching in the area of classroom and behavior management. + Certification/Training in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
