Meter tech I or II (League City or Clifton TX) Location: Clifton, TX, United States Job ID: 6089120 Date Posted:Jul 2, 2025 **POSTING DEADLINE** This position is posted until filled. **JOB DESCRIPTION** **Meter Tech II** **Union $49.94 Per Hour** **SUMMARY:** Programs, installs, repairs, tests, and calibrates all single phase and three phase self-contained and transformer rated meters. Installs, tests, and verifies the accuracy and integrity of all single phase and three phase filed meter installations including substation metering and the testing of all meters in the meter shop/laboratory. Maintains all documentation pertaining to meter installations and meter testing as required by company policies and local and state regulations. Instructs personnel in the proper and safe installation of instrument transformers and metering equipment. **ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** Plans, installs, tests, and verifies all new primary and secondary instrument transformer metering Contacts energy technicians or contractors to schedule installation and instructs and verifies given work groups to the proper installation of metering equipment Analyzes and resolves metering problems and/or maintenance on all existing primary and secondary instrument transformer metering installations Tests and repairs/replaces damaged instrument transformers, meters, and associated wiring Conducts instrument transformer rated change outs associated with the annual TNMP Demand Meter Test Program for the assigned area Assists, as directed, with the training of skilled and semiskilled workers in the safe and proper installation of instrument transformer metering Troubleshoots and repairs meter communication problems Develops Demand and Reactive programs for poly-phase solid state electronic meters **COMPETENCIES:** Extensive knowledge of complex metering and maintenance of installation Extensive knowledge of electrical theory and proper meter testing techniques Extensive knowledge of corporate safety procedures and proper use of all personal protective equipment Knowledge of regulatory and corporate policies and guidelines for meter testing and settlement meter installations in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) market Ability to manage difficult or emotional customer situations while maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor Ability to troubleshoot and repair various appliances Ability to analyze and resolve complex, meter, service, repair and installation problems Ability to recognize potential and immediate hazards and act in emergency situations Ability to operate various tools and equipment related to service work Ability to work in difficult positions outside, inside and under structures Ability to work independently **QUALIFICATIONS** **MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:** High School diploma or GED with six to seven years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline. **CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:** Completion of training in "Basic Metering," "Advanced Metering," and ¿Meter Technology¿ at the Southwest Electrical Metering Association Meter School. Must possess a current, legally valid drivers license and meet the company's driving record requirements. **COMMUNICATION SKILLS:** Ability to read and interpret complex meter drawings and schematics and various operating and procedure manuals Ability to write routine reports and correspondence Ability to speak effectively with customers, contractors, and fellow employees to ensure safe and proper installation of metering equipment **MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:** Ability to perform basic and advanced mathematical computations including percentage, ratio, power factor, plot voltage, and current and phasor diagrams Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry **COMPUTER SKILLS:** Ability to use general office equipment, a personal computer, and word processing software Knowledge and experience with Customer Information System (CIS) functions dealing with meter inventory and work orders **ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:** Ability to identify real and potential safety hazards before commencing any work and react according to company policy. Verifies the accuracy and integrity of all single phase field meter installations and the testing and calibration of all meters in the meter shop/laboratory. Maintains all documentation pertaining to meter installations and meter testing as required by company policies and local and state regulations.
