About the Role: 

Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, the incumbent will be responsible for the application and monitoring of metallurgical systems in the Porgera process operation, including identification of optimization and improvement projects, providing technical guidance and mentoring

Key responsibilities:

Ensure safe operation of the processing plant is achieved through control and optimization of the processing plant comprising of Crushing, Grinding, Floatation, Acid Pressure Oxidation (utilizing 4 autoclaves), Oxygen Plants, CIL (Carbon in Leach), CIP (Carbon in Pulp), Elution, Electrowinning, Gold room, Tailings Detoxification and other ancillaries included lime plant, paste plant and batch plant Providing technical training and guidance to the Metallurgy technicians and Operation teams to improve their knowledge and capability to operate the plant more efficiently and safely. Ensure all daily met routine tasks and planned shutdown activities are completed as required Collecting and analysing information to assess plant performance statistics, process monitoring and control, statutory requirements, systems efficiencies, business improvement and change management initiatives and recommend for systems improvements Ensuring accurate metallurgical accounting procedures, reagent consumption accounting and tracking, review and improve metallurgical reporting systems Liaise with key stakeholders including operations, mining, geology, maintenance, etc to plan and forecast for production targets based on business requirement Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures, 

 Key requirements:

To succeed in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience: 

Tertiary Qualifications in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering  Minerals processing experience preferably in gold extraction and recovery, with minimum experience of 5 years at metallurgist level  Ability to be a team player, working collaboratively with metallurgists across other areas of the plant and support with the team’s needs, priorities and challenges as and when needed Good communication skills and ability to interact with other departments as required to deliver on business plans and KPIs Good understanding with Metallurgical Accounting and reporting Strong skills to troubleshoot operational and metallurgical issues, find the root cause and provide timely solutions to ensure plant operates at its optimal performance Good experience in production forecasting, cost management and budgeting Demonstrated experience in procurement of equipment, materials, consumables and reagent including knowledge of hazardous chemical storage and first aid certification Membership of AusIMM, or SME, and/or IEPNG (desirable, not essential)

Mobilization Requirement 

This position is open to PNG Citizens Only Rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off   Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage).  Must Have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)  Possess a PNG valid driver‘s licence – Desirable. Ability to foresee security inadequacies and implement plans to correct them.  Be physically fit
