Job Overview:

As a Mental Health Worker, you will be responsible for supervision of residents throughout shift, participate and lead program activities at the direction/discretion of program director, document in the daily log book pertinent resident information and provide psycho-educational groups, as directed by director.

The New Point Specialty (NPS) is a 15-bed psychiatric facility (specialty bed) serving adolescents who are residents of NJ between the ages of 14 and 18. Services are voluntary. The Children System of Care (CSOC), Contract Systems Administrator (PerformCare) determines the specialty bed level of care and referrals are made via the SRTU for admission into the program. NPS is licensed by The Office of Licensing and accredited by the Joint Commission.

The program model is designed to respond to the needs of significantly traumatized youth who have severe behavioral and emotional disturbances. Youth admitted into the program demonstrate an array of behaviors that include but are not limited to impulse control, anger outbursts, assaultive behaviors, self-harming acts, and oppositional behaviors. An array of specialized treatment are incorporated into the trauma-focused model including Sexually Reactive Behavior and/or Fire-Setting Specific Treatment. Comprehensive family treatment is done when applicable, which may include psycho-educational, group, and clinical family sessions.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's degree or AIMS MHA certificationUnencumbered current driver's license Clean driver's license record as determined by the employer and is also validated by the NJMVA

Preferred:

Experience in crisis management and with at-risk youth Previous experience in working with psychiatric patientsExperience in crisis management

Certifications and Licenses Required:

BLS through the American Heart Association

Meets and greets all visitors to the unitLogs in visitors and purpose of visitExamines packages and belongings when there is a question of safety for resident and/or staffParticipates in de-escalating resident s behaviorRestraints as necessary and in accordance with standards to maintain a safe environmentEscorts resident to the PES for evaluation when clinically indicatedUtilizes non-violent crisis intervention techniques when necessary and as requested by program directorAssists in orienting new staff membersDocuments in the record participation in crisis management including precipitants, interventions and outcomesProvides information to clinical staff/admin re: resident/visitor behaviorParticipates in treatment review and planningParticipates in program activities at the direction of the program director/designeeAttends and participates in unit meetings by offering suggestions, ideas and comments concerning unit and team effortsMaintains a clean and comfortable environment for the patient according to established policy and procedureDocuments pertinent patient information on a daily basis and as needed on the medical recordImmediately reports patient changes in condition to the program leadershipContributes to the formulation of and carrying out of treatment plans elaborated by the staff of the treatment teamProvides standard patient care as delegated by the program leadership including physical care, escorting patients, participating in patient related activities maintaining therapeutic communication with patients, collection of specimen, etc.Participates in patient/staff meetings, group and community meetings, as required, on the unitContributes to updating of patient care plansParticipates in recreational activities for the patientDemonstrates communication skills appropriate to ageDelivers medication to residents which are prepared by the R.N. to residents as directed
