Requisition ID: req58728 Job Title: Mental Health Intern Sector: Health Employment Category: Intern Employment Type: Part-Time Compensation: USD 0.00 - 0.00 Hourly Location: Salt Lake City, UT USA Work Arrangement:Hybrid Job Description SCOPE OF VOLUNTEER WORK: IRC SLC health programs promote physical and psychosocial wellbeing by ensuring access to health care services and providing culturally appropriate, strength-based educational programming. With oversight from the mental health program, the mental health Intern will provide direct support to the program. They will assist with mental health screenings, providing psychoeducation, responding to client mental health needs, supporting referral access, as well as the engage in program development to improve mental and emotional wellbeing of refugee and immigrant families and individuals. COMMITMENT: - 15 hours/week minimum for 3 months o Start Date: September 8th o End Date: December 19th RESPONSIBILITIES: • Participate in weekly health program meetings and weekly supervision • Assist clients in accessing mental health services, and gaining self-sufficiency in access to mental and emotional health resources • Strengthen relationships with partner organizations and identify improved avenues for treatment • Identify areas of growth and development for program and assist in program development goals • Provide public transit orientations to clients or transport client to health appointment weekly. Valid Driver's license, access to a vehicle and willingness to drive clients highly prioritized. • Offer relevant resources to support mental and emotional wellbeing in the context of mental health screening, referral and post-screening follow-up • Provide psychoeducation to refugee individuals and families • Motivated, flexible, able to work independently, self-starter qualities are necessary in this role. • Other, as assigned and/or determined by Health and Wellness Program Manager LEARNING OBJECTIVES: • Gain professional experience working in the public health sector and working with partners throughout the community • Gain skills in administering mental health screenings • Gain group coordination skills through recruiting for, organizing, and implementation of psychosocial support groups Qualifications REQUIREMENTS: · Must be currently enrolled in a graduate/undergraduate program, or have graduated less than 6 months ago · Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English; fluency in additional foreign language preferred. · Background check is required · Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding client information · Strong organization skills and attention to detail · Strong intercultural communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from other cultural backgrounds • Background and/or current study in social work, psychology, public health or related field (BSW or MSW preferred) • Experience working with diverse populations and with interpreters • Motivated, flexible, reliable, and able to work independently • Demonstrated communication skills and ability to work as part of a team • Computer skill in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) This is an unpaid volunteer position.
