Job Overview:

The Mental Health Associate position provides care to the patients and maintains a safe environment under the direct supervision of the registered nurse. All methods of practice shall conform to written hospital policies and procedures and be carried out to the highest achievable level of competence in a manner demonstrating concern and consideration.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in a psych related fieldOR 5 years behavioral health experienceBLS through the American Heart AssociationSuccessful completion of all orientation programsExcellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills

Essential Functions:

Understands information pertinent to assigned patientsTransports patients to ancillary departments and emergency roomCompletes personal hygiene for assigned patientsReports patient complaints, problems. And any untoward signs, symptoms, or unusual occurrences immediately to the appropriate Registered NurseResponds appropriately to emergency situationsAssists with ambulation techniques, assistive devices, and patient positioningAssists with nutritional needs of the patients, collects specimens, and takes and records vital signsFunctions as a member of a multidisciplinary team to maintain a positive and supportive atmosphere on the unit and notifies professional nurses of any information regarding patient's physical and emotional conditionAbility to add additional parameters as needed by review of patient history and physicalAssists associates in completion of their duties and functions as a cooperative active member of the health care teamInteracts with the patients on the unit to promote the safety and security of all patients and staff and reports to the professional nurse any condition on the unit that jeopardizes safety and securityMaintains accurate and thorough documentation as requiredShows sound and mature judgment in maintaining the safety and security of the patients and staffMaintains confidentiality of clinical informationMaintains the rules and regulations of the unit and notifies the professional nurses of any situations that require immediate attentionConnects patients to telemetry monitorsPerforms phlebotomy servicesStocks SuppliesPerforms all other duties as assigned
