Member Relations Specialist

Cybera is a not-for-profit agency whose mission is to improve the lives of Albertans through the use and advancement of digital technologies. We serve the province’s education, research, and government sectors.


Cybera offers ground-breaking services that are changing the way the education and the public sectors work. To better support our member community, we are building a new member relations practice which will have a deep focus on member engagement and membership value through cultivating and sustaining meaningful relationships with members. Cybera is eager to realize more personalized member attention, make member communication more efficient, and find new collaboration opportunities that enhance member experience and trust. 


Reporting to and collaborating with the Director of Member Relations, the Member Relations Specialist will have the opportunity to help define the scope and set of practices of the new department. They will drive engagement with Cybera’s member community, facilitate many of Cybera’s external-facing activities, and oversee interactions with potential new members. The specialist will also aggregate member feedback and identify areas where Cybera needs to grow in order to expand member value and ensure retention. Through fostering strong relationships, addressing concerns proactively, and enhancing the overall experience of member organizations, the new department will drive long-term success for Cybera and our members.  


The ideal candidate will be service-oriented and have excellent communication, analytical, research, problem-solving, and planning skills. The workload is highly dynamic and, consequently, the individual must be extremely flexible  and able to meet tight deadlines under short notice. 



We will ask you to: 

Collaborate with the Director of Member Relations and VP of External Relations to implement a member/stakeholder engagement plan, identifying key stakeholders and outlining tailored approaches to effectively involve them in organizational activities, decision-making processes, and initiatives. Lead presentations and/or introductions to external groups on Cybera initiatives. Assist with the planning and execution of engagement activities, including webinars, workshops, and conferences. Interact with a wide range of external and internal individuals and organizations. Remain up-to-date with trends and activities in the education/public/tech ecosystem space, particularly those that may impact our membership.  Develop and implement a communications strategy to engage new and existing members on: Awareness and utilization of existing Cybera tools and services. Development of pilot programs and new tools, e.g. a revised member portal. Awareness of national initiatives, including cybersecurity programs and group collaborative procurement. Collaborate internally on the management of information systems and databases, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of member data, and implementing protocols for regular updates and maintenance to support informed decision-making and engagement strategies. Assist the communications team and other departments with other events and projects, as required.


Your professional tool-kit should include:


Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, business administration, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in stakeholder engagement, communications, or related roles. Demonstrated experience in developing and executing stakeholder engagement plans, with a proven track record of successfully involving diverse stakeholders in organizational activities and initiatives.

Skills:

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, including higher education & research institutions, government agencies, and industry partners. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively to diverse audiences. Comfortable presenting to diverse audiences both virtually and in-person. Proficiency in utilizing various communication channels and tools, including social media platforms, newsletters, presentations, and websites, to engage stakeholders and disseminate key messages. Familiarity with customer relationship management tools, with the ability to oversee data integrity and implement protocols for regular updates and maintenance. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Ability to use both Mac OS as well as Google Suite. Commitment to the mission and vision of Cybera, with a passion for advancing the organization's goals of supporting world-class research and education through innovative networking and collaboration initiatives.

Nice to Have:

Experience in event/conference planning and coordination. Experience within the non-profit, education, higher education, and/or municipal sectors.

Other:

Occasional travel required to attend conferences, meetings, working groups, and on-site visits across various locations in Alberta.

Compensation and Location:

This position is based in our Calgary office. Salary will be commensurate with experience. No relocation costs will be awarded.
