Medical Transport Billing and Coding Specialist
**Job Description:** The Air Medical Coding Coordinator Codes Air Medical outpatient billing for government and private payers. The Air Medical Coding Coordinator reviews patient transport records and assigns CPT and ICD 10 codes in compliance with payer guidelines. This position completes post-service audits and works with providers and other internal departments to ensure accurate assignment of charges and timely billing for the Emergent, Air Medical Charter and Donor Services programs. This position works with providers, payers, hospital case managers and Medical Transport leadership to approve and collect for the medical transport system. This position completes, daily, weekly and monthly analytics for the Medical Transport Service line. Serves as team experts in working with revenue cycle, finance, and payer contracting to ensure accuracy and expertise in correct reimbursement. Serves as the coding expert and educates internal clinical staff in documentation and appropriate and timely billing. **Essential Functions** + Serves as a coding expert for Air Medical, coordinates all coding components, research and resolves issues related to provider and facility related claims. + Reviews patient care records for accurate coding, completes post-service and post payment audits for claim coding accuracy, appropriateness and reimbursement. + Educates internal Air Medical Charter staff regarding documentation needs to ensure appropriate and timely coding and billing. + Serves as member of Air Medical Charter transportation team and gives quotes receives payment and ensures all payments are authorized and approved prior to transport. + Serves in backup capacity as a Life Flight coordinator family concierge + Record keeping and maintaining of the Medical Transports within the document manager + Serves as liaison to patient accounts services reconciling payment issues and denials **Skills** + Attention Detail + Knowledge CPT and ICD 10 coding + Knowledge of Regulatory Policies internally and nationally + Time Management + Effective Communication + Team Collaboration + Critical Thinking + Multiple team conflict resolution + Extensive Computer skills – Excel/Microsoft Office + Documentation training for medical staff on current standards **Physical Requirements:** **Minimum Qualifications** + Certified Professional coding certificate (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) + Experience in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology **Preferred Qualifications** + Coding experience in healthcare environment + Certified Documentation Expert-Outpatient (CDEO) or other coding related specialty certification + Experience with government and insurance carrier regulations **Physical Requirements** + Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs. + Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately. + Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use. + Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bent to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items. + Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles. **Location:** Valley Center Tower **Work City:** Murray **Work State:** Utah **Scheduled Weekly Hours:** 40 The hourly range for this position is listed below.
