**Job Summary**
The Medical Technician II performs routine and specialized moderate and high complexity laboratory tests on all types of blood and body fluid specimens under minimal supervision. The Medical Technician II insures accurate and reliable test results by adhering to a strict quality control program and performs instrument function checks and preventative maintenance procedures according to department policy and procedure. The Medical Technician II maintains records and statistical data according to regulate requirements. MT II teaches new employees and students in laboratory policies and procedures, collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required and assist as needed in all laboratory areas as required to maintain appropriate patient care. The MT II assists the lab director in data collection and interpretation for department meetings, evaluating department data documentation for Proficiency surveys and Joint Commission surveys and meets with Joint Commission surveyors to evaluate the specific department within the laboratory. The Medical Technician II recommends personnel requirements and adheres to policies of personnel daily time management and oversees peer review for specific department.
**Essential Functions**
+ Accurately performs all moderate and high complexity tests assigned.
+ Completes and reports all test results in a timely manner with appropriate and accurate documentation.
+ Assures that quality control is performed as required.
+ Analyzes quality control data. Participates in Peer Review data analysis. Troubleshoots and corrects out of range results timely
+ Always performs instrument preventative maintenance procedures on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis as required and reports any malfunctions to the section supervisor
+ Effectively operates the Laboratory Computer System for general laboratory and section specific functions
+ Performs proficiency testing required for accreditation in a timely and accurate manner.
+ Assists section or shift supervisor in data collection and analysis required for laboratory accreditation
+ Communicates all instrument malfunctions, QC problems, unusual patient results, and unusual events to the section or shift supervisor
+ Willingly accepts extra assignments and phlebotomy duties. Assists co-workers in completing all department and shift duties.
+ Always follows the Laboratory Safety plan by wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required and following the department safety regulations.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ Complies with all policies and standards.
**Qualifications**
+ 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
+ Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory testing procedures and instrumentation.
+ Familiarity with laboratory regulatory standards (e.g., CAP, CLIA, Joint Commission).
+ Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
+ Effective communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
+ Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
+ Proficiency in Laboratory Information Systems and basic computer applications.
**Licenses and Certifications**
+ ASCP or AMT - Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Tech Certification required
+ State licensure as applicable by law required
