Schedule: Full-time day shift, 8-hour shifts. Every 3rd weekend required.
Directs and coordinates the technical systems of an assigned section of the laboratory (Blood Bank, Hematology or Chemistry). Responsibilities include the training/orientation of all new employees as well as the yearly competencies of existing staff. Coordinates the implementation of all quality control/quality assurance programs. The ordering of department supplies and inventory levels are maintained by the lead technologists. Reports to the laboratory manager.
A Medical Technologist conducts diagnostic laboratory tests that are important in detecting, analyzing and treating a wide variety of diseases and medical conditions. A medical Technologist uses microscopes, chemicals, precision tools, analyzers and computer equipment to perform tests that give doctors and patients detailed information about various conditions, including the progress and prognosis of the patient. A Medical Technologist performs standard laboratory procedures consistently providing high quality patient care. A Medical Technologist is able to work independently in assigned areas (Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology).
Lead Tech Duties
Work as a bench tech
Be the first point of contact for technical questions and answer day to day operational workflow inquiries
Train employees when needed
Assist manager with completing annual competency assessments of the staff
Review weekly inventory sheets and order supplies
Review & sign off on all QC logbooks
Assist with timekeeping in UKG Dimensions
Maintain old CAP surveys for external QC
Review pending and outstanding logs and review of critical results in EPIC
Monitor maintenance work orders for completion
Take phone calls forwarded from the micro lab staff
Performs other duties as assigned
Education and Training Required
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology - or Baccalaureate degree with a major in biological science or chemistry, or baccalaureate degree with a combination of 30 semester hours of biology, chemistry and/or medical sciences, AND meet the training and/or experience requirements for the specific certification
Certification and Licensure Required
Possess Medical Technologist certification (BB, C, CG, CT, H, HTL, MLS, M, MB) by ASCP
With Bachelor's; MT (ASCP) certification or eligible.
Certified as MT (HEW)
Certified as MT (AMT)
