Medical Laboratory Science Educator

Days

Work schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:00am-4:00pm. Occasional evenings. No call, nights, weekends or holidays.

Job Summary: The Medical Laboratory Science Educator will provide professional expertise, knowledge, and technical skills to students of the Saint Francis Health System School of Medical Laboratory Science.  This position will work with laboratory professionals of the health system to provide education that is innovative, current, and collaborative. 

Minimum Education: Bachelor's in a chemical, biological, physical, medical laboratory science, or related science from a regionally accredited university. Master’s degree in public health, healthcare administration, or education is preferred.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Must hold current certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years teaching experience in a NAACLS accredited, medical laboratory science program and minimum 2 years of work experience as a medical technologist in a clinical laboratory.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Effective communication skills and leadership qualities. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships among those involved in the educational program. Ability to establish priorities, solve problems, and make decisions. Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Provides instruction to medical laboratory science students in a didactic setting. Plans and oversees clinical training of medical laboratory science students.  Participates in curriculum and program development, implementation, evaluation, and revision. Assesses program data for continuous program improvement. Assists program officials with student recruitment and interviews for admission. Demonstrates knowledge of education methods as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures.

Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field

Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Leads others in same work performed (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal and/or external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.


Special Job Dimensions: Travel will be required to oversee laboratory training at various entities.
