Vassar Brothers Medical Center, located 75 minutes north of New York City, has an excellent opportunity for a Medical Director of the Labor and Delivery Department. This is a unique opportunity to be a clinical leader in a growing health system that has an established center of excellence in Women’s Health. The Medical Director will lead a group of obstetricians and work collaboratively with nursing leadership, midwifery, anesthesia, and neonatology to ensure the highest quality, evidence-based care.
This position will be 0.8 clinical as an OBGYN generalist or OB hospitalist in the Nuvance-Northwell employed practice, and 0.2 administrative as the L&D Director. This role will report to the Vassar OBGYN Chair and help oversee the Nuvance-Northwell employed OBGYN physicians.
The Division of OB/GYN has offices located in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill and Highland, NY. The practice admits exclusively to Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. Our busy Labor and Delivery Unit sees about 2,500 babies born each year. We have a level III NICU staffed by neonatologists, as well as an excellent perinatology program. In addition, we have fellowship trained breast surgeons and GYN-oncologists that are located on the Vassar Hospital campus.
The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:
* At least 3 years of practice, with preferred experience as an accomplished member of a leadership team of a large, community teaching hospital and/or academic medical center.
* Interest in working with a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
* Experience working with midwives and NP/PAs preferred.
* The candidate must be MD/DO with completed OBGYN residency training and board certification.
* NY state licensure (or eligibility to obtain NY state licensure) is required.
Essential Responsibilities:
* Lead a group of obstetricians who provide exceptional, evidence-based obstetrical care.
* Work collaboratively with nursing leadership, midwifery, anesthesia, neonatology, and obstetricians to ensure the highest quality of care.
* Review basic practices around the plan of care and develop protocols that are readily available to all Department staff providing care to patients.
* Attend daily huddles to review the plan of care for all patients in labor and delivery, antepartum patients, and triage patients.
* Evaluate the use of clinical resources to ensure that they are used appropriately to enhance quality and cost effectiveness.
* Assist with the development and training of obstetric simulation.
* Participate in patient experience rounds with the nursing leadership team.
* Participate in the Emergency Department/Obstetrics care collaboration meetings.
* Participate in the standardization of obstetric patient care protocols at Hospital.
* Review new product requests and processes for the Department.
* Participate in the Department Performance Improvement committee meetings and Department grand rounds.
* Participate in the multidisciplinary planning meetings when a high risk delivery requires complex coordination.
* Participate in The Joint Commission/regulatory survey readiness tracers.
