Medical Billing Specialist
Description We are seeking a detail-oriented Medical Biller to join a fast-paced and dynamic healthcare team. The Medical Biller will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely submission of healthcare claims, reviewing and resolving claim rejections, and communicating with insurance companies for expedient payment processing. This position demands an understanding of medical billing practices, insurance policies, and electronic health record (EHR) systems. Key Responsibilities + Claims Processing: Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to insurance companies electronically or by paper. + Insurance Communication: Work directly with insurance companies to follow up on unpaid claims, verify patient insurance coverage, and resolve discrepancies. + Billing and Coding Compliance: Maintain compliance with payer requirements and regulations, including HIPAA. Ensure that billing codes align with procedures performed. + Revenue Cycle Management: Monitor and manage the accounts receivable aging process, investigating overdue payments and applying necessary corrective actions. + Patient Interaction: Communicate with patients regarding billing inquiries, payment plans, and clarifications on medical statements. + Record Maintenance: Update patient accounts and billing records accurately in electronic medical record systems (e.g., Cerner, Epic). + Denial Management: Research and resolve claim denials or rejections efficiently to optimize revenue collection. Requirements Skills & Qualifications + Experience: 2–4 years of medical billing experience in a healthcare setting preferred. + Education: High school diploma or GED required; further training or certifications in medical billing/coding preferred (e.g., CPB, CPC). + Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Cerner or Epic. + Certifications (Preferred): Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC). + Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy in data entry and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in billing records. + Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, healthcare providers, and payers. + Problem Solving: Proficiency in identifying and resolving complex billing or coding issues.
