Medical Billing Specialist
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Billing Specialist to join our team in Worcester, Massachusetts. This contract position offers an opportunity to leverage your expertise in medical billing and claims processing to ensure accurate and timely submission of claims while adhering to industry standards and payer guidelines. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills when addressing billing discrepancies and denials. Responsibilities: • Submit claims to third-party intermediaries for government and commercial payers with accuracy. • Investigate and resolve payer edits, clearinghouse rejections, and formatting issues to ensure successful claim submissions. • Utilize ICD-10 coding knowledge to meet payer-specific requirements and ensure compliance with billing guidelines. • Review system-generated reports and payer feedback to correct claim errors promptly. • Conduct follow-up activities on outstanding accounts, including appeals and documentation requests. • Analyze underpayments and denials, coordinating with payers to resolve issues effectively. • Monitor recurring trends in denials or rejections and provide insights to leadership for process improvements. • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation in the billing system to support claim processing. • Collaborate with internal departments, such as coding, credentialing, and compliance, to address complex billing challenges. • Support month-end close processes by prioritizing claims that are high-value or time-sensitive. Requirements • Proficiency in medical billing systems such as Allscripts, Cerner, and Epaces. • Hands-on experience with Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) and electronic health record (EHR) systems. • Strong understanding of accounts receivable (AR) workflows and appeals processes. • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing guidelines. • Ability to navigate claim administration and benefit functions effectively. • Exceptional problem-solving skills to address billing discrepancies and denials. • Up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations, payer rules, and coding standards. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accurate documentation and compliance.
