Responsibility
Summary:
Under the direction and supervision of the Practice Manager and/or Physician and in accordance with approved policies and procedures, the Medical Assistant (MA) provides quality care in an effort to achieve the best possible clinical outcome. Specifically, the Medical Assistant provides care to adolescent, adult and geriatric patients and assists with medical care. While under the supervision of the Physician or Physician Extender, the Medical Assistant obtains clinical intake information and transcribes physician’s exam/consultation findings into the Electronic Medical Record for review. The MA performs dressing changes, assists with in-office procedures and exams as directed and arranges for community care and diagnostic tests as needed. The Medical Assistant takes all actions necessary to maintain the flow of patients through the practice in conjunction with the clerical and other nursing staff. The Medical Assistant is responsible to ensure exam rooms are stocked at all times, and medical supply inventory is maintained at appropriate levels.
Essential Job Functions:

Communicates with front-end staff and other clinical staff to ensure smooth workflow. Monitors and anticipates provider schedule to ensure patient intake has occurred and patient is brought to exam room and readied for provider. Answers patient/family questions regarding appointments. Stocks exam rooms daily with needed supplies.
Demonstrates competency in sterile technique and specimen collection, Prepares lab and diagnostic test requests for the physician/physician extender.
Serves as medical scribe when Physician is performing exam/consultation. Accurately documents the preliminary patient concern, reviews and updates patient's health status, and accurately enters the provider's findings during the exam. Reviews and updates the patient demographic information and the patient record at each visit to include diagnosis and orders. Creates and records all referral information in the patient record.
Performs pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-procedure interventions in a skilled and proficient manner. This includes proficiency in the setup of procedures, anticipating the need for materials and equipment, conducting interventions in an appropriate manner as directed by provider. Additionally, demonstrates competency in sterile technique. Prepares patient and/or family for diagnostic procedures and treatments, educating patient and/or family on post procedure instructions, and providing follow up care.
Performs all additional tasks requested to ensure smooth clinic workflow, quality care, compliance, teamwork, and patient satisfaction.
