Medical Assistant- Podiatry Specialist

A Medical Assistant- Podiatry Specialist would concentrate on supporting foot and ankle care for our senior patient population. The position emphasizes evidence-based preventive care and helps reduce the need for specialty referrals by providing comprehensive foot care within our medical centers, keeping patients in our system where we can coordinate their complete care effectively.

Patient Care Support:

Assist podiatrists during examinations and proceduresHelp patients with positioning and comfort during foot/ankle assessmentsTake vital signs and document patient symptoms related to foot conditions

Foot Care Procedures:

Assist with routine nail trimming and callus removalHelp with wound care for diabetic foot ulcers or other foot injuriesSupport basic foot hygiene education for patients

Documentation & Screening:

Document foot examinations and findings in patient recordsScreen patients for diabetic foot complications, circulation issues, and infection risksTrack healing progress of wounds or surgical sites

Equipment & Supplies:

-Maintain podiatry equipment and ensure proper sterilization-Manage inventory of specialized foot care supplies Prepare treatment rooms for podiatric procedures

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE CRITERIA:

High school diploma or equivalent education (GED) requiredGraduation from a nationally accredited Medical Assistant program OR comparable healthcare vocational training (i.e. EMT, paramedic) requiredA minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician or similar in a hospital, medical clinic or comparable environment OR documented clinical rotation training can be substituted for work experienceExperience working with geriatric patients is a plusEMR system experience preferredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AMA) or American Red Cross required w/in first 90 days of employment
