Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description

This role involves assisting with patient preparation and education, managing clinical workflow, and screening for preventive care needs. The Medical Assistant conducts lab tests, maintains EMR documentation, and supports patient self-management. The position also includes providing discharge assistance, performing phlebotomy tasks, handling medication refills, and managing insurance pre-authorizations.

ResponsibilitiesAssist with patient preparation and education.Manage clinical workflow efficiently.Screen for preventive care needs.Conduct lab tests accurately.Maintain thorough EMR documentation.Support patient self-management strategies.Provide discharge assistance.Perform phlebotomy tasks.Handle medication refills.Manage insurance pre-authorizations.Essential SkillsProficiency in EMR systems.Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.6 months of experience in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent.Bachelor's degree in exercise physiology/science or related major.Completion of a cardiac technician course.Additional Skills & QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED.Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from the American Medical Technologists within one year.Previous externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting is strongly preferred.Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred.Completion of an externship program at MedStar Health may be considered as a substitute for experience in ambulatory care.Work Environment

The position is based in a busy cardiology office, managing over 30 patients daily. The environment requires efficiency and attention to detail to ensure excellent patient care.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
