Medical and Laboratory Director

The salary range for this position is $225,000 – $260,000 annually, or commensurate with experience.

In this role, you will provide vital medical oversight for our patients, donors, staff, and healthcare partners in Las Vegas and other areas served by Vitalant. Your work will support key blood center operations like component manufacturing, laboratory testing, donor counseling, and product management, while also overseeing clinical services such as transfusion support, therapeutic apheresis, and cellular therapy collections.  Areas of specialization include serving as the medical and laboratory director of centralized transfusion services, cellular therapies, therapeutic apheresis, and Immunohematology Reference Laboratory services.

Location:  This position has a location preference of Las Vegas, NV; however, other locations within the United States may also be considered with an increased travel requirement.

As a Medical & Laboratory Director, you'll get to:

Stay current on industry advances, maintain technical and clinical expertise, and help bring new technologies and improvements to Vitalant.Support operations management, including personnel leadership, public relations, and marketing efforts.Provide medical and technical guidance to leadership and clinical teams, serving as a CLIA or FACT, or ASHI-defined laboratory director as needed.Help identify and drive process improvements by evaluating, developing, and implementing new policies and services.Promote the medical integrity of safety, quality, and regulatory initiatives, offering medical support to Quality, Regulatory, and Risk teams.Deliver consultative services to hospitals, physicians, donors, staff, and patients, including site visits and educational presentations.Represent Vitalant Medical Affairs at internal and external meetings, continuing education programs, and professional organizations to advance our services and mission.Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, hospital clients, and external partners to support service excellence and business growth.

Knowledge/ Education

·        MD or DO or equivalent degree required.

·        Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations for assigned areas required.

 

Licenses/ Certifications

·        Active applicable state licenses and/or certificates within first 6 months required.

·        Board certification in Clinical Pathology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, or other clinical specialty required.

·        Board certification in Transfusion Medicine or eligibility followed by certification within six (6) months of employment required.

 

Experience

·        Fellowship training or equivalent experience in blood banking/transfusion medicine required.

·        Experience at a blood center and/or hospital transfusion service including provision of education, clinical consultations, and some combination of therapeutic apheresis, cell therapy, laboratory, immunohematology, etc. experience required.

·        Two years’ experience in the fields of assigned duties preferred.

·        Must have proficient computer skills.

·        Ability to travel (10%+) as needed to support areas of responsibility.
