MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

The Role:

 

Oxfam {Syria} is looking for <Media & Communications Coordinator Media >

The key responsibilities for this role are identified below:

Media and Communications (80%)

Advise key Oxfam staff on media-related advocacy and oversee sign-off procedures alongside the Advocacy, Campaigns and Communications Manager. Manage Oxfam in Syria’s social media presence and strategy; and oversee content, posting, engagement and feedback. Contribute to the strategic development of communications activities, including donor communications, content collection and development, alongside data visualization. Draft talking points, Q&As, press releases and other relevant products, in accordance to identified advocacy priorities. Safeguard Oxfam's public image by managing media risks and ensuring adherence to brand guidelines. Handle media inquiries and manage relationships with journalists, and media outlets, including Oxfam media leads; and organize media interviews, journalist visits, and donor media trips. Lead media pitches specifically for Oxfam Syria. Supervise and manage internal communications materials, like situation reports and newsletters alongside others. Review, edit, and guide programme communications content; and lead on the translation of content, where needed. Supervise all visibility-related work for Oxfam and relevant entities and ensure adherence to donor visibility guidelines. Serve as the key contact for crisis communications and ensure a rapid, coordinated media response. Monitor the effectiveness and reach of media and communications work and ensure effective information management. 

Coordination and management (20%)

Manage media and communications officers; and supervise assistants, service providers, and field support staff, where needed. Manage media and communications-related procurement and contracting. Coordinate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team to identify effective ways in communicating the impact of Oxfam’s work in Syria. Collaborate with country and field staff to ensure proper brand management, ensuring visibility activities are consistent with Oxfam’s brand guidelines.   Collaborate with partner organizations for joint media and communications work. Coordinate Syria-related media efforts across Oxfam affiliates in partnership with regional and global media leads. Engage with media and communications teams within the Rights in Crisis and other Oxfam networks, to support Syria-related media and communications work. Provide training and capacity support to internal teams, partners, and other relevant entities.

An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:

Essential:

Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in media, communications, or related disciplines. Experience in NGO settings is advantageous. Bachelor's degree or higher in media, communications, public relations, or a relevant field. Full proficiency in both spoken and written English and Arabic. Demonstrable understanding and experience with media networks at the national, regional, and global levels. Proven expertise in building and managing effective media relations. Proven experience in managing and leading social media platforms and related analytics. Clear understanding of media and advocacy work within NGO settings—particularly in humanitarian and development contexts. Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities. Strong familiarity with evolving trends, strategies, and digital tools in digital and social platforms.

Desirable

Advanced conceptual thinking, research, analysis, and writing capabilities. Experience in delivering training and capacity-building initiatives. Proficiency in design and publishing software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or similar platforms. Demonstrated experience in managing video production projects. Demonstrated experience in photography, videography, and editing tools.
