Location: Charlotte, NC | Pay Rate: $25/hour | Schedule: Mon-Fri (7am - 3:30pm) Weekends/OT as needed
Summary:
PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to play a vital role in the maintenance and operation of advanced mechanical systems within our Customer's engineering labs and manufacturing environments. In this hands-on position, your expertise will directly support critical R&D testing and production activities—minimizing downtime, ensuring safety, and maximizing performance.
What You'll Do:
As a Mechanical Technician, you'll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of mechanical and HVAC equipment used in lab and industrial settings. This is a highly impactful role where your technical knowledge and problem-solving skills will help ensure the success of day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on lab infrastructure and HVAC systems. Diagnose and repair mechanical issues involving compressors, pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, valves, and more. Support installation and commissioning of new lab test rigs, including mechanical hookups and system calibrations. Conduct regular inspections of lab utilities such as chilled water, compressed air, and refrigerant systems. Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance activities and ensure proper documentation. Interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and P&IDs for troubleshooting and installation. Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with Company and regulatory standards. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the maintenance workspace and parts inventory.
Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical maintenance or HVAC systems in a lab, manufacturing, or industrial setting. Ability to read mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and equipment manuals. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments. Strong understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and general safety procedures. Experience working in dynamic environments with experimental or prototype systems. Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
Preferred Qualifications: EPA 608 Certification (Universal). Experience with HVAC/R test labs or environmental chambers. Forklift or overhead crane certification.
Work Environment: Hands-on physical role involving frequent standing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and ladder use. Exposure to temperature fluctuations, refrigerants, and compressed gases. Occasional weekend or after-hours work may be required during critical maintenance windows.

Pay Details: $25.00 per hour
