Are you passionate about mechanical maintenance and plant reliability? We're seeking a skilled Mechanical Technician to support plant performance through expert maintenance, problem-solving, and project execution.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and execute Capital and Renewal Projects, including planning, contractor adjudication, team coordination, and cost control. Conduct technical investigations and feasibility studies, identify root causes of failures, and implement sustainable solutions. Provide specialist mechanical support in fault-finding, breakdowns, and equipment performance improvements. Coordinate and monitor statutory inspections (e.g., pressure vessels, structures) and ensure legal compliance. Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules, standards (QCPs), and documentation for plant equipment. Utilize systems such as SAP and MDT to support maintenance planning, cost control, and shut execution. Coach and guide operational teams, and step into leadership roles as needed, including stand-by responsibilities. Promote and enforce safety compliance, perform plant audits and lockout inspections, and support continuous improvement aligned with Sappi Fundamentals.

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualification: NQF Level 6 – Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Experience: 3–5 years of relevant practical experience in an industrial environment. Advantageous: Experience in the Pulp and Paper industry.
