Mechanical Fluid Systems Engineer
Job Requirements

The main responsibilities of the department are generator auxiliaries and system engineering support for service projects from negotiation through field commissioning. Additional responsibilities include support for development and maintenance of the standard design rules and tools for generator auxiliary systems. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the power generation industry, basic computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and interpersonal skills enabling successful interface with our customers of all disciplines and external customers worldwide. 

 

Perform hand calculations for system requirements including fluid flow, heat transfer, auxiliary electrical loads, and equipment weights. Work with designers to develop and release drawing packages including Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Wiring Diagrams, Outline drawings, detailed piping modifications, and bills of materials. Basic understanding of how to interpret functional diagrams for control logicAbility to perform basic analysis of wiring diagrams and P&ID’sWorking knowledge of industry standards including DIN, EU, PED, ASME, ASTM, and ANSI and also SIL, ATEX, and NFPA. Provide support for applications/modernization, vendors, field service and external customer organizations during upgrade/modification quoting, manufacturing and installation. This includes supporting district offices in both customer sales presentations and resolving operational issues by analyzing data from testing and field operation. This will involve traveling to customer sites for system inspections / walk downs and vender manufacturing facilities for customer witness tests / first article inspections. Provide support for field service and external customer organizations in forced outage recovery programs and support product integrity by participating in failure analysis. Publish specifications, customer and technical reports. Review and approve vender drawings.Perform design reviews following design philosophy for development and upgrade of generators and related auxiliary systems. 

Work Experience
Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering is a preference 5-10 years of relevant engineering work experience Basic Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint Software knowledge Ability to work independently with clarity on scope and responsibility Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines High flexibility in taking new tasks/responsibilities Proactive and Solution Oriented. Communication skills, including report writing, e-mails, verbal and technical presentation skills. Working knowledge of design and troubleshooting the equipment associated with large turbine generators. Experience with simple cycle equipment arrangements and mechanical design knowledge associated with the design of machine components. Familiarity with generator auxiliaries, such as stator water, hydrogen gas, and seal oil systems. This includes power plant components, including heat exchangers, valves, pumps, motors, etcExperience in conveying design philosophy and operating practice to customers, other engineers, and technology partners.Understanding of ONE-P SAP and Teamcenter, Siemens NX & AutoCAD used for drawing development, release and ordering. Project management and organization skills needed to develop project plans and perform the function of technical lead in large inter-organizational R&D, new apparatus and service modernization projects for generator auxiliaries.
