Mechanical Engineering Team Leader
Overview Garmin Canada has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Mechanical Engineering Team Leader who has a hunger for solving real world problems in the consumer electronics space. As a leader of a mechanical engineering team, you will be responsible for a team that designs, verifies and implements mechanical or electromechanical components, products and systems. You will deliver superior mechanical solutions to Garmin’s fitness and outdoor segments while productizing and maintaining new technologies for consumer products. Essential Functions The Mechanical Engineering Team Leader of the products team will: Lead and direct a Mechanical Engineering team to design new products, enhance existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures Directly supervise a Mechanical Engineering team with daily observation, ensuring appropriate attendance and providing assistance Work with Human Resources to address employee relations issues as needed including writing and conducting annual performance appraisals Interview and hire new associates and interns as needed and approved by engineering management, to meet the requirements of the Business Segment as part of the Team Leader’s responsibility to create effective staffing plans. Ensure the Mechanical Engineering team meets overall design, quality, and schedule goals in accordance with the product development plan through an appropriate combination of analysis and testing. Mentor and train associates and interns in the area of Mechanical Engineering and project management in their progression through the technical career path. Participate in design reviews, ensuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all that attend Understand Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Development team needs and ensure that engineers are working effectively with these groups to enable project team success Confer with Management and Manufacturing teams to determine feasibility and cost effectiveness of new product concepts Travel internationally as required Perform other job-related duties as assigned Basic Qualifications Bachelors or Masters of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a four year college or university or equivalent education AND 5 years’ experience in a technical role, performing duties similar to the functions of this team OR a minimum of ten years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description Strong academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule) Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others Excellent time management and follow-up skills Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality Eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.
