Mechanical Engineer II, HV Battery
Lucid Motors
As a member of our HV Mechanical Design team, you will develop cutting-edge components for our HV Batteries that will directly impact performance, safety, and efficiency. We do not believe in compromise & heavily value first principles engineering. You will drive every stage of the process, from concept to production, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to create solutions that bolster Lucid’s dominance in the EV world. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude, demonstrates excellence in their respective fields, and possesses the ability to adapt quickly within a fast-paced environment. They are always striving to push the envelope of what’s possible.
Role:
Design Ownership: Lead the design of core HV battery components, such as busbars, plastic housings and isolators, harnesses, and connectors, from initial concept through production. Innovation & Optimization: Continuously optimize designs for cost and performance without sacrificing safety or reliability. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with electrical engineers, quality assurance, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems. Prototyping & Testing: Design prototypes, create 3D CAD models, and develop test plans to validate designs. Drive changes based on test results and real-world feedback. Continuous Learning: Embrace new challenges and expand your engineering skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Qualifications:
Experience: 2+ years of experience as an individual contributor in a fast-paced engineering environment. Engineering Fundamentals: Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including structural, thermal, and mechatronic design. CAD Proficiency: Strong skills in 3D CAD (e.g., CATIA, 3DX, or similar). Problem-Solving: Experience with root cause analysis methods (e.g., 8D, FMEA) and ability to apply them to complex technical challenges. Teamwork: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment. Hands-On Experience: Proficiency with prototyping and shop tools to develop and validate designs.Preferred:
Manufacturing Knowledge: Experience with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, sheet metal stamping, die casting, and more. Battery Design: Experience in designing high-voltage batteries or battery disconnect components (60VDC+). Automotive Engineering: Familiarity with automotive product validation processes (environmental testing, shock/drop testing, etc.). Electronics Integration: Experience integrating mechanical designs with high-voltage electrical systems.Education:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
