About the Role
Islington Council is looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our Capital Programme Delivery – Engineering Team. This is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to deliver mechanical design, project management, and engineering leadership across new build and retrofit housing projects in the borough.
As a key part of our Housing Property Services, you will lead on the design, specification, and delivery of mechanical systems – from communal heating to low-carbon technologies – ensuring value for money and compliance with relevant standards.

Key Responsibilities
Design, specify and manage the delivery of mechanical engineering projects.Lead on procurement and contract management for new builds and refurbishment projects.Oversee compliance with Building Regulations, CDM, and health and safety standards.Act as technical lead for feasibility studies, inspections, and stakeholder consultations.Collaborate with internal teams, residents, consultants, and contractors.Manage budgets and ensure projects are completed on time and to high standards.What We’re Looking For
✅ Chartered Engineer or member of CIBSE (or equivalent experience/qualification).
✅ Experience delivering complex mechanical systems (e.g., communal heating, heat networks).
✅ Strong project and contract management skills.
✅ Excellent technical knowledge and stakeholder communication abilities.
✅ Commitment to innovation, quality, and resident-focused delivery.
