Mechanical Engineer

Our client, a leader in the packaging industry, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their team. As an Mechanical Engineer you will play a key role in the New Product Development (NPD) team, focusing on the design, development, and innovation of industrial packaging equipment. This position involves leading design efforts using SolidWorks, researching emerging materials and technologies, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate customer needs into manufacturable solutions.

Location: Eastlake, Ohio

Pay Range: $85,000 - $110,000

What's the Job?

Serve as a member of the New Product Development (NPD) engineering team focused on the design of new industrial packaging equipment. 

Design and develop parts and assemblies using SolidWorks, create 3D models, assembly drawings, and manufacturing/fabrication drawings. 

Lead and contribute to the ideation, conceptualization, and development of innovative packaging solutions. 

Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, technologies, and materials relevant to the packaging industry. 

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate voice of customer and market needs into actionable product concepts. 

Evaluate and experiment with novel materials to enhance performance, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness. 

Stay updated on advancements in material science and industry standards to ensure products remain competitive and compliant. 

Oversee prototyping and testing phases of new product development to ensure designs meet technical specifications, quality, safety, and regulatory standards. 

Implement rigorous testing protocols to validate the performance and durability of packaging concepts. 

Support existing products, including root cause analysis, engineering change requests, and ongoing manufacturing support. 

Work closely with internal teams—sales, marketing, manufacturing, and quality—to ensure seamless integration of new products into production and sales pipelines. 

Communicate effectively with external partners, suppliers, and industry experts to foster collaboration and maintain awareness of best practices. 

Maintain detailed records of research activities, experiments, and outcomes. 

Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations to keep stakeholders informed on project progress.

What's Needed?

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering. 

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the packaging industry, preferably with a focus on food and/or beverage; general machine and system design experience may be acceptable based on experience level. 

Proven experience in research and development of new products. 

Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and quality standards. 

Demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving capabilities. 

Excellent project management and organizational skills. 

Effective communication and interpersonal abilities, with a collaborative team-oriented mindset. 

Self-motivated with a strong internal drive to identify, align, commit to, and achieve goals.
