ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with the mechanical engineering team to develop new solutions and support ongoing process improvement initiatives.Perform mechanical design and analysis to meet system requirements, with a strong familiarity in electronics integration.Utilize development and debug skills for mechanical interfaces and components used on multi-rack and optical automated test equipment.Create and modify documentation to support production with mechanical analysis and troubleshooting.Contribute to cross-functional teams to solve production and field-testing challenges, including design prototyping and environmental testing solutions.Develop and review product designs, analyzing development and design requirements.Design test fixtures, cables, and interconnects, accompanied by the necessary documentation.Analyze and specify tolerances in assemblies of precision components.Prepare and present project or technical information to peers, internal management, and customers.Plan and manage tasks effectively, facilitating documentation and drawings of mechanical designs from inception through release.Design and develop complex modules and complete products, considering factors such as structural design, optical hardware analysis, thermal and vibration testing, and design verification.Essential SkillsExperience interacting with multidisciplinary engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, software, and system engineers.Proficiency in design tools like SolidWorks, NX, AutoCAD, or similar, and 3D printing.Practical experience with mechanical engineering design and analysis.Ability to translate requirements into physical design constraints.A degree in STEM or equivalent experience; typically 5 years of relevant experience, or 3 years with an advanced/grad degree, or 9 years without a degree.
Additional Skills & QualificationsHands-on skills with a focus on continuous feedback for design performance.Detail-oriented and excels in a team environment, conducting research when information gaps exist.Experience in mechanical test equipment design within an optical manufacturing environment.Knowledge of typical fabrication processes such as CNC, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.Expertise in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GDT) and stack-up tolerancing analysis.Work Environment
The role involves working with innovative test equipment solutions in a collaborative environment, focused on aerospace mechanical hardware. The position is based in the Portland Metro area, and requires a hands-on approach to engineering tasks. Dress code and facility conditions will align with professional and safety standards relevant to engineering work. The job is onsite, so local/regional applicants will be the focus.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
