Position Overview
As a Mechanical Engineer III, you will oversee the design of expansion and growth enhancement projects delivered by Engineering Service Providers. You will ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, client specifications, processes, and operational reliability needs, while meeting project budget and schedule. This role involves close collaboration with stakeholders to deliver competitive solutions and successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities Own and manage relationships and contracts with Engineering Service Providers. Lead the design review process, ensuring compliance with regulatory codes and client specifications. Enforce internal standards and procedures, including Process Hazard Assessments and constructability requirements. Manage material specifications and requisitions, review vendor quotations, evaluate bids, and recommend suppliers based on technical merit, price, and delivery in collaboration with Supply Chain. Provide planning and scheduling for the design and procurement phases of the project. Offer technical support through all project phases development, construction, and commissioning. Specify hydrotest pressure requirements and review associated results for compliance. Oversee incorporation of red-line markups into as-built drawings. Act as the engineering control account manager for budget, schedule, and technical objectives. Support the development of project scope, schedule, cost estimates, execution planning, risk management, and supporting data during the development phase. Support Operations with any incident investigations post-handover. Review lessons learned from previous projects and integrate recommendations into future designs. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Assist peers and senior staff with business initiatives and ensuring legal compliance.
Scope & Impact Responsible for the successful operation of assigned areas with significant corporate financial impact. Oversee technical solution development and implementation, coordinating resources with both internal and external stakeholders. Provide informal leadership and mentorship to peers.
Key Relationships Project Manager: Weekly project progress updates (cost, schedule, risk). Supervisor, Facilities Project Engineering: Daily to weekly status updates. External Engineering Firms: Daily to weekly oversight of design activities. Operations: Weekly to monthly updates and design guidance. Supply Chain & Vendors: Weekly to monthly management of material requisitions and procurement.
Qualifications
Required: Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in engineering system design and commissioning within the oil and gas industry. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited institution. Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation. Strong communication skills and ability to act independently as a professional engineer. Demonstrated planning, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills. Preferred: Project Management experience. Innovative mindset with the ability to drive and manage change. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and prioritize effectively. Ability to resolve complex technical and business challenges. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, both technical and non-technical.
