Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design to Controls Design Engineer
Job Description
This position is for a Senior Mechanical Design to Controls Design Engineer specializing in Body Shop Tooling fixtures within automotive body shops. The role involves managing the completion of significant and complex engineering tasks and projects, providing administrative and technical guidance to a team of employees, and directing major and minor engineering projects within a specified area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
+ Prepare general specifications for engineering projects.
+ Support, coordinate, and execute all quality initiatives.
+ Ensure compliance with customer requirements, specifications, and requests.
+ Suggest and support continuous improvement efforts.
+ Provide customer-facing experience, which is considered an advantage.
+ Manage peripheral automotive Body-In-White (BIW) departments and their deliverables.
Essential Skills
+ Proficiency in NX (Siemens) for navigation and observation.
+ Experience with AutoCAD for navigation and observation.
+ Strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
+ Familiarity with OEM standard deliverables such as STDS, WESS, and XRWD.
+ Experience in light or heavy automotive Body-In-White (BIW) engineering.
+ Ability to create Cycle Time Charts and Controls Layout Sheets (CLS).
+ Competence in Operator Timing using OEM's Standard Time Data System (STDS).
+ Ability to perform Operator ERGO Studies and Walk Path analysis on DWF files.
+ Experience in creating part outlines and using eM-Planner.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in weld gun design and fastening technologies.
+ Exposure to CAD platforms.
+ Strong organizational and planning skills.
+ Attention to detail and ability to follow structured processes.
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
+ Leadership experience and site support capabilities.
+ Analytical skills for decision-making and problem-solving.
Work Environment
The position offers hybrid flexibility with a structured schedule of four days onsite and one day remote. The role provides opportunities for both domestic and international travel to support project execution and field validation. The work environment is fast-paced and supportive, promoting team collaboration with experienced engineers and project stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to expand your technical expertise and make a direct impact on the performance, safety, and efficiency of automotive body shop systems.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Southfield, Michigan.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $33.00/hr.
