As a Mechanical Designer, you will be responsible for designing parts and assemblies for both new and existing products, utilizing plastic and metal materials. You will create 3D part files, manufacturing drawings, and assembly drawings using SolidWorks. Your role includes improving the design of existing parts to enhance manufacturability, reliability, or reduce cost where necessary. You will perform tolerance stack-up, basic thermal, and stress analyses, and build and test prototypes to ensure all essential design requirements are met. Additionally, you will develop engineering testing plans and execute or assist in their implementation.
ResponsibilitiesDesign parts and assemblies for new and current products using plastic and metal.Create 3D part files, manufacturing drawings, and assembly drawings using SolidWorks.Improve the design of existing parts to enhance manufacturability, reliability, or reduce cost.Perform tolerance stack-up, basic thermal, and stress analyses.Build and test prototypes to ensure all essential design requirements are met.Develop engineering testing plans and perform or aid in their execution.Interact with vendors and sub-contractors to specify manufacturing processes.Participate in failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) as part of risk management.Collaborate with Manufacturing Specialists on drafting and maintenance of work instructions.Maintain existing designs to comply with the latest standards and address component obsolescence.Support production and service teams by resolving technical issues and establishing effective testing and test benches.Prepare engineering change requests and change orders.Participate in the design review process.Interface with partners, suppliers, and subcontractors to address technical issues.Essential SkillsProficiency in SolidWorks for creating 3D models and drawings.Knowledge of plastic injection and sheet metal design.Understanding of GD&T, DFA, and DFM principles.Experience with component design and component manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, plastic and metal 3D printing, plating, injection molding, and die casting.Ability to perform thermal analysis and stress analysis.Additional Skills & QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PEng) certification.Familiarity with standards such as IEC and ISO.Work Environment
The work environment is an in-office setting from 8 AM to 5 PM, featuring an open concept where teams are divided into different sections. The mechanical team consists of anywhere between 5 to 10 engineers depending on the day.
