Mechanical Designer

Our Design & Engineering team is looking for a Mechanical Designer who is interested in learning and developing their career in modular manufacturing. This role will give you the opportunity to work closely with our manufacturing team on the grounds and see your design come into action.  

This role requires a hands-on approach and open communication closely with the trades. You will explore buildability but also energy code compliance, while doing designs, drawings and equipment selection. The role will support the plant and site construction teams. In our fast-paced industry quality and timeliness of our documents are imperative.

The role works under the direction of the Mechanical Engineer, but reports to the Manager, Electrical & Mechanical Engineering.

Job Responsibilities: 

Timely delivery of Building Code Compliant and cost-effective mechanical drawings through acute collaboration with other disciplines and teams including Project Management, Manufacturing, Estimating, Quality, and Supply Chain. Coordinate mechanical and plumbing designs with other disciplines (Electrical, Fire Protection, Architectural, and Structural) to ensure seamless Integration to approve for Construction Drawing status. Review design Compliance to meet current Energy Codes. Calculate HVAC requirements and completes troubleshooting and analysis of HVAC systems. Prepare plumbing design drawings using current plumbing code standards and install methods. Prepare work scope, mechanical equipment specifications and equipment layout considering access, maintenance, and installation.  Prepare mechanical design drawings based on the design package, bid specifications and sales drawings. Meet with internal stakeholders to confirm the accuracy of drawings, material take-offs & selections/quantities, and opportunities for improvement. Conduct plant visits for project inspections and other duties as assigned.

Who You Are: 

5 years of relevant experience in a similar industry  Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering or Completion of the Mechanical Engineering Technology program  Knowledge of National and Provincial Building, Plumbing, Gas, and Fire codes; some knowledge of IMCC or UPC is considered an asset   Knowledge of NECB, some knowledge of IECC is considered an asset Ability to read and interpret Engineering drawings.  Knowledge of different discipline drawings and modular building construction would be an asset. Proficient in using REVIT and BIM360; knowledge in using Auto CAD Able to create and maintain REVIT families. A self-starter team player with good organizational skills and interest in trades.
