This position will be based remotely.** During your summer journey with us, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the cutting-edge Health Monitoring team where you will learn to recognize patterns and pull actionable insights from complex diesel engine data. You'll master the art of root cause analysis, transforming raw sensor data into predictive intelligence that keeps locomotives running smoothly across the nation. **Imagine being the detective who prevents engine failures before they happen!** You'll work with state-of-the-art monitoring systems that track everything from temperature fluctuations to vibration patterns, learning to identify the subtle warning signs that could save millions in maintenance costs and prevent service disruptions that affect thousands of passengers daily. Our Health Monitoring specialists are the unsung heroes who ensure that when someone boards a train in Chicago bound for Seattle, that locomotive's engine will perform flawlessly for the entire 1,732-mile journey. **A little bit about us** **Siemens Mobility** provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people and goods by rail – including rolling stock, rail automation, rail electrification, and service. We craft and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems. **How does (department) plays into the big picture?** Our Health Monitoring team is the digital nervous system of modern rail transportation. We're the early warning system that transforms traditional "fix-it-when-it-breaks" maintenance into intelligent, predictive care. By analyzing millions of data points from sensors embedded throughout diesel engines, we help railroad operators shift from reactive to proactive maintenance strategies. This means fewer unexpected breakdowns, reduced operational costs, improved safety, and enhanced reliability for the millions of passengers and tons of freight that depend on rail transportation every day. We're literally keeping America moving! **What your day-to-day will look like with your team:** + Analyze engine performance data using advanced analytics tools to identify trends, anomalies, and potential failure modes + Develop and refine algorithms that can predict engine maintenance needs weeks or months in advance + Work alongside engineers, data scientists, and field technicians to validate findings and implement monitoring improvements + Contribute to next-generation monitoring technologies, including IoT sensors, machine learning applications, and digital twin development + Translate technical findings into actionable recommendations that directly improve locomotive reliability and reduce downtime + Receive mentoring from seasoned professionals across multiple fields to help guide your future **Critical Capabilities** : + Finding creative solutions when data tells an incomplete story + Connecting the dots between complex technical symptoms and root causes + Working effectively with diverse teams from software developers to field mechanics + Taking ownership of analysis projects and driving them to completion + Asking "why" and "what if" to uncover hidden insights in data **Who Should Apply?** + Education/Majors: Current Sophomore or Junior undergraduates pursuing a BA/BS from an accredited college or university and majoring in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Industrial), with a strong technical or analytical aptitude + Availability:40 hours per work from June to August + Work Authorization: Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization + Prior internship or co-op experience (preferred) with a preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0 + Demonstrated leadership potential + Strong analytical, writing, presentation, and critical-thinking skills + Industry knowledge and/or interest in data analytics and mechanical systems \#LI-EB1 **You’ll Benefit From** The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00 per hour, based off of your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
