Mechanical and Tribology Specialist
. **Role Purpose & Value** **This Role adds value by . . .** improving the prediction accuracy of driveline product performance – with strong focus on endurance life of constant velocity joints – to optimize the process of product size selection. **Key Responsibilities** 1.Development of calculation approaches (analytical and numerical) to simulate loading conditions for driveline products (focus on constant velocity joints, tripod joints, ball-spline-units) 2.Acquisition of basic knowledge in the field of tribology to identify application limits of driveline products 3.Identification of key influence parameters and tolerances on product performance by simulation and test – especially for endurance, NVH and the transition area between strength and endurance (e.g. rotary fatigue life) 4.Development of test methods – e.g. multi-block program generation under consideration of damage accumulation hypothesis, lubricant and tribological boundary conditions (surface topology, contact stress and relative speed between friction partners) 5.Further development of existing damage models for endurance life prediction 6.Provide technical advice and support for GPCs 7.Documentation: Results documentation in coordination with the Chief Engineer Virtual Prediction & Sizing; Maintenance: Updating and documentation of calculation documents **Essential Qualifications & Experience** Master degree in Mechanical Engineering (focus on engineering mechanics and tribology) Good knowledge in engineering mechanics and structural integrity Good knowledge in tribology and lubricants Knowledge of reliability engineering and technical statistics Knowledge in Finite Element simulation (advantageous but not mandatory) Knowledge in Multi-Body simulation (advantageous but not mandatory) Basic knowledge in Matlab (advantageous but not mandatory) Ideally minimum 3 years of professional experience **Essential Competencies** Responsible, target-oriented and pragmatic way of thinking and working Quality-oriented, binding and reliable in communication Ability to self-organize and work in structured manner Ability and willingness to work in international and cross-functional teams Openness for innovations and new ways of working Sensitivity for product reliability requirements GKN Driveline provides equal employment and affirmative action opportunities to applicants and employees without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, protected veteran status, age, genetic information, pregnancy, or disability.
