Mechanic I

The Mechanic I is responsible for maintenance of fleet equipment and trucks.  This position requires all trucks and equipment to be kept in good working order, organizing necessary repairs to keep equipment and trucks working consistently in the field. The Mechanic responds in a timely fashion to request for repairs, both scheduled and unscheduled, by assessing needs within time constraints.    

Pay Rate: $33-$36 per hour DEO

Roles and Responsibilities: 

Perform diagnostic, troubleshooting and repair tasks on vehicles, equipment and trailers  Completion of preventative maintenance tasks including oil changes, brake jobs, etc.  Troubleshooting and repair of electrical issues especially wiring harnesses and lighting  Coordinating with the Shop Foreman to prioritize and expedite repairs  Document repair and maintenance work on vehicles, trailers and equipment in accordance with company processes  Ensure DOT compliance on all fleet items  Entering data into fleet computer system for tracking and vehicle profiles  Operate all company vehicles and equipment in a safe manner  Communicate effectively an professionally with all company and vendor personnel  Maintain general shop safety and cleanliness standards Performs other duties assigned 

Success Factors: 

Able to disassemble engines and evaluate for efficient and cost-effective repairs  Familiar with DOT requirements and inspection processes  Able to complete paperwork accurately and legibly for required tracking of all maintenance and repair activities per company policies  Good computer skills (parts ordering, email, internet navigation)  Must provide own tools  Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and bend constantly throughout the day  Ability to work with hand tools and power tools in both strength and fine manipulation scenarios  Ability to lift 0-20 lbs. constantly, 21-50 lbs. frequently, and 50-75 lbs. occasionally  Must be able to work indoors and out in all types of weather as needed 

Experience and Education: 

Two (2) years of experience in fleet and construction equipment diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of both gasoline and diesel engines  Experienced with electrical, hydraulic and suspension systems 

Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications: 

Possession of a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required.  Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
