Mechancical Services Manager

Babcock is looking for a Mechanical Services Manager to join the Marine Mechanical team based in Devonport, Auckland.

Step into a critical leadership role where your technical know-how meets your ability to manage and motivate a large workforce. As Mechanical Services Manager, you’ll be at the heart of maintaining Royal New Zealand Navy assets and commercial vessels—overseeing a skilled team of marine, diesel, and mechanical fitters. You’ll deliver on time, on budget, and above standard, keeping New Zealand’s dockyard operations shipshape and mission-ready.

About you

 

You are a hands-on leader with a mechanical trade background, confident managing large technical teams in high-stakes environments. You thrive on delivering operational outcomes, can juggle production schedules, people, and quality systems all at once. You naturally mentor others, embrace health and safety, and aren’t afraid to make bold decisions when needed. Whether it’s improving workflow or coaching a fitter, you own and deliver your team’s success with pride, purpose, and professionalism.

 

Key Required Skills

 

Strong leadership of large trade-based teams Deep understanding of mechanical/marine/diesel systems Effective production planning and task prioritisation Proactive in health, safety, and environmental compliance Skilled in reporting progress against integrated schedules Clear communicator with strong written and verbal skills Competent using PLM/MRP systems and general software Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement

 

Key Required Qualifications

 

Technical vocational certificate in a relevant trade (marine/mechanical/diesel) Eligible for NZSIS Confidential Vetting (CV) security clearance White Card (Construction Induction) Membership of a relevant technical body (or intent to gain)
