JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Apprentice is an entry-level position in the maintenance department to gain hands-on experience in the maintenance field while working under the guidance of experienced journeyman mechanics. The Maintenance Apprentice will assist in tasks related to various installations, maintenance, and repairs across the plant. Outside of work hours, the apprentice will enroll in an approved program to enhance skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A list of the principal functions of the job to include an action-oriented description of each activity along with the desired outcome against which some measurement of performance can be applied.
• Learn the maintenance craft by assisting experienced mechanics in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing processor equipment, mill equipment, all mobile equipment, harvest and road salt equipment, and fire protection systems.
• Learn a broad spectrum of trades including pneumatics, welding and cutting, metal fabrication, carpentry, plumbing and pipefitting, and machine work (lathe, mill, etc.).
• Complete all assigned tasks in a safe manner per SOPs, company policies, and regulations.
• Champion safety and create a safe environment for employees and visitors.
• Collaborate with senior mechanics to troubleshoot issues and implement solutions.
• Support all programs in the plant such as the reliability, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping.
• Comply with all policies, laws, and regulations including health, safety, environmental, and food safety.

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Must be enrolled or able to be enrolled in community college (to complete apprenticeship coursework)
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills
• Must have working knowledge of welding, cutting, and general mechanics
• Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits
• Punctual and reliable; good attendance required
• Able to use hand tools
• Good communication skills
• Team-player and good behaviors
• Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills
• Satisfactory work performance
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to operate various types of machinery. Physical requirements include lifting 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and climbing stairs. Must wear PPE including hard hat, gloves, hearing protection, safety shoes, protective eyewear, and long pants/ sleeved shirt.
