Position: Materials Technician
Position Description:
The Materials Technician completes materials test plans supporting the introduction of new products and materials for the Claremont fiber optic cable plant as well as other Prysmian cable plants around the world. The materials technician also tracks and manages the inventory of consumables and other materials and cable samples in the materials lab. The Materials Technician will obtain regularly updated lists of planned materials tests as well as test details and ensure that test plans are completed. The materials technician will follow documented work instructions in order to complete all standard testing required to support new product development, new materials development, and ongoing quality control activities. Test data obtained by the Materials Technician will be recorded and documented according to Prysmian procedures in Microsoft Excel format on standardized data sheets or some other format specified in the test plan. The materials technical will assist in operation and maintenance in various pieces of laboratory equipment.Ensure all product meets requirements as defined by the Plant’s Quality Management SystemsComply with all applicable safety procedures and ISO14001 EMS guidelinesOther duties as assigned by supervisor or a member of managementEducation:
Required: An Associate’s degree in a technical field or the equivalent is required for this position, but flexibility in educational requirements will be allowed for individuals with otherwise exceptional relevant experience.
Preferred: Associate’s degree in a technical field or the equivalent.
Experience
Required:
Must complete OJT for specific job classification, as required, in a timely manner.Experience in an analytical or test lab.Preferred:
1-5+ years of experience in materials testing and materials test development. Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001 and ISO 17025). Familiarity with optical fiber cable materials testing standards and test methods. Hands on competence in the operation of mechanical testing equipment, thermal analysis. Experience in optical measurements and fiber reliability testing. Experience in fiber testing and characterization.
Skills/Attributes:
Detail oriented individual with good organizational skills. Computer literate.Mathematical Skills, Basic High School math plus some college math (algebra, trigonometry). Some knowledge of statistics desired.Computer Skills MS Office as well as analytical instrument control and analysis software expertise is required.
