Materials Planning Team Leader
Job Description SummaryWe are hiring a Materials Planning Team Leader to support the Refurbishment and Field Service operations. This role will serve as the right hand of the Materials Manager and be responsible for driving execution, team alignment, and operational excellence across materials planning activities.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, natural leader, and problem-solver with a deep understanding of planning systems, service priorities, and inventory optimization. This role focuses on ensuring the timely availability of materials and parts across multiple service and refurbishment value streams while minimizing inventory waste and improving service levels.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Act as the main execution partner to the Materials Manager, driving alignment, accountability, and planning excellence across the team.Manage and update planning parameters, purchasing schedules, and system controls to meet service and refurbishment needs.Own shortage management: lead daily execution, root cause investigation, escalation, and resolution of material availability gaps.Monitor and improve inventory health and accuracy, lead actions on excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.Ensure strong alignment between service production schedules and materials availability.Lead or support critical initiatives such as Kanban implementation, warehouse optimization, and planning system enhancements.Collaborate with cross-functional teams (procurement, operations, service engineering, distribution) to support customer and internal delivery goals.Mentor, train, and coach junior planners on execution best practices and systemic issue resolution.Support business reporting and KPIs related to service fill rate, inventory turns, and planning accuracy.Represent planning in operational reviews and planning huddles; clearly communicate risks and solutions to leadership.

Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.Minimum of 3 years of experience in materials planning, execution, or supply chain within a service or refurbishment environment.Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems (Oracle preferred) and planning processes.Demonstrated ability to lead in a team environment and execute under pressure.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.Strong organizational, follow-up, and problem-solving skills.

Desired Characteristics

Master’s degree or MBA in Supply Chain, Operations, or Business.5+ years of experience in materials planning and execution in a service or refurbishment context.Lean or Six Sigma Certification (Green or Black Belt).Strong Oracle experience and Excel/data analysis skills.Experience leading AWOs, Kaizens, or similar improvement efforts.Inventory optimization expertise, including Kanban or Min/Max strategies.Proven ability to build trust, influence others, and drive results cross-functionally.Strong initiative, ownership mentality, and continuous improvement mindset.
