Primary Function

The Materials Engineer – Welding is a part of our Lloyd R. Smith Corporate Technology Center (CTC) Team in Milwaukee, WI.  The CTC contains a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians with the purpose of researching and developing technologies on a 3-5 year time horizon.  The Materials Engineer – Welding will be responsible for researching metal joining technologies for use in water heating equipment while supporting our global business units with process support and improvements, failure analysis, test method development, and design guidance. 

Responsibilities Subject Matter Expertise: Provide expert knowledge in traditional welding and brazing techniques and emerging technologies. Brazing Development: Lead the development and implementation of brazing capabilities across the organization. Research & Innovation: Conduct research on new welding and brazing methods, materials, and technologies to drive innovation. Process Improvement: Advise manufacturing plants on improvements to welding and brazing processes to optimize production efficiency and product quality. Training & Development: Develop and deliver training programs for welding and brazing techniques to ensure skill enhancement across the workforce. Quality Assurance: Ensure all welding and brazing processes meet industry standards and regulatory requirements. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, and quality assurance, to achieve organizational goals and troubleshoot challenges to quality, performance, and productivity. Qualifications Master’s or PhD in Welding Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 7 years of experience in welding engineering and manufacturing experience in both traditional and emerging technologies. Proven expertise in brazing techniques and development. Strong research and analytical skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Ability to work collaboratively in a global team environment. Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements. We Offer
