Materials Engineer - Polymer

See how your contributions will help transform vision into reality.** Position Overview: As a Polymer Materials Engineer at Mercury Marine, you will be responsible for providing engineering support regarding the use, testing, and analysis of polymeric components for current products and new product introductions. **At Brunswick, we have passion for our work and a distinct ability to deliver.** Essential Functions: + Evaluate new product materials, covering thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers, rubbers, composites, and adhesives. + Support senior polymers engineer in the adoption of new polymer materials and processes through technical data collection and analysis needed to make those decisions. + Write and maintain material, processes, and testing specifications for polymer materials and processes. + Record results of work performed, conclusions and recommendations in clear, concise and timely reports. + Utilize laboratory equipment such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, SEM, EDS, Melt Flow, Tensile Tester, and various microscopes to complete the following tasks: 1) Failure analysis on failed polymer components, these components will be from qualification testing, production, and field returns. 2) Material qualification, perform production qualification work on externally sourced components. 3) Document all findings in a clear, concise, engineering report. + Support sourcing initiatives through evaluation and qualification of new vendors, processes and materials. + Provide support and timely feedback to polymer material inquiries from other Brunswick operations. + Sort through conflicting data and evidence to determine root cause of a condition or issue. + Actively support cross-functional teams in support of Product Development & Engineering goals, including manufacturing and sourcing support. **Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain** **skillsets/experiences** **are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.** Required Qualifications: + Bachelors degree from an accredited university in Composites, Materials or Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with relevant experience in a similar role. + 1 year of experience or prior internship / co-op experience Preferred Qualifications: + Proficient in the operation and maintenance of materials laboratory equipment, including both destructive and non-destructive methods of inspection. + A strong working knowledge of polymer materials selection, fabrication processes, manufacturing processes, manufacturing sequences, tooling design, quality systems, and interpretation of technical drawings and specifications. _Next is Now!_ _We value growth and development, recognizing that people come with a wealth of experience and talent beyond just the technical requirements of a job.
