We have an exciting position for a Materials Advisor who will implement the demand forecast and plan over defined planning horizons and inventory management strategy and tactics based on established tools and models to deliver optimal inventory levels that meet service level targets.

Kumba Iron Ore

We produce high-grade iron ore, the key component in steel widely used in construction and manufacturing worldwide. Our activities include all aspects: exploration, mining, processing and blending, shipping, marketing, and selling. In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, a head office in Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.

Job Description

 

As a Materials Advisor, you will provide services as required, and your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Safety, Health, and Environment

Identify ways to support specific safety, health, and sustainability opportunities and risks and ensure materials planning activities comply with all Safety, Health, and environmental requirements. Ensure the safe operation of the Physical Supply Chain environment, performing regular risk assessments, monitoring safety performance, and addressing any risks/issues immediately.  Maintain and support compliance with relevant policies and standards, particularly the Contractor Performance Management policy and procedures, to achieve gold-standard contractor safety performance.

General

Manage the effective implementation of the Supply Chain strategy within the Physical Supply Chain and materials planning environment.  Embrace an agile Supply Chain by being adaptive and flexible to accommodate and focus on emerging and changing business priorities. 

Supply Chain Strategy, Critical Tasks, Targets 

Support the implementation of the Materials Plan based on input from end-users and historical data analysis to meet end-user requirements at optimal inventory levels.Support the operation and output of reliable planning and suggested inventory models based on detailed inputs from end-users, MRP analysts and forecasting models to inform regional category decisions.Support the implementation and adherence to standards and guidelines on inventory management.Execute the operation and output of reliable planning and suggested inventory models based on detailed inputs from end-users, MRP analysts and forecasting models to inform regional category decisions.Support the definition and maintenance of the business's inventory strategy in partnership with the Group COE, business stakeholders (mainly engineering and maintenance), and finance to balance delivery requirements and financial commitments.Support the MRP teams in setting and maintaining MRP parameters to ensure inventory optimisation in alignment with the inventory strategy.Facilitate the working capital optimisation opportunities for execution, e.g. disposal of excess and obsolete stock.Support the working capital optimisation opportunities for execution, e.g., disposal of excess and obsolete stock.

Planning

Provide input into frontloading, identification and sizing of initiatives relating to working capital benefits. Facilitate inventory optimisation events are planned, scheduled, resourced, and executed promptly and clearly.

Sustainability and Social

Identify and lead inventory optimisation initiatives to minimise wastage at the operations to minimise Anglo American’s carbon footprint.Implement network optimisation opportunities to guide logistics providers in reducing transportation frequency, positively impacting the environment.

Commercial Value Delivery 

Implement working capital optimisation opportunities and identify and ensure the execution of cost reduction initiatives that positively impact cost to serve.Provide input and guidance to sourcing and purchasing teams on optimal fulfilment strategies for commodity classes, such as central vs. decentralised, VMI, VOI, etc.Support a culture of planning and fulfilment within areas such as purchasing, sourcing and operationsSupport the Anglo American Operating Model and cross-site best practice sharing to leverage tangible working capital benefits.

Relationship Management

Maintain stakeholder relationships within the Supply Chain, key suppliers, and internal end-users (maintenance and production teams) to enable effective demand planning and fulfilment.Provide advice to stakeholders regarding MRP and demand planning processes.Create awareness and embed best practices regarding inventory and network optimisation protocolsCoordinate transport and delivery to meet operational deadlines.

People and Teams

Support the team to ensure that agreed service levels are maintained and service excellence is met. Embrace a Supply Chain team culture of diversity and inclusiveness.   Drive own performance management and personal learning.Support cross-functional team interactions with internal stakeholders to execute purchasing activities.

Governance and Compliance

Facilitate personal and team compliance with internal Anglo American and Supply Chain Governance requirements regarding all materials planning activities.  Facilitate personal and team compliance with applicable legislative requirements on all Physical Supply Chain Management activities in the set portfolio.

 

This position is in Kumba Iron Ore in Supply Chain (SC) at a Band 6 level and reports to the Materials Planning Specialist.

QualificationsGrade 12National Diploma in Supply Chain/ Finance or a relevant discipline on NQF6B-degree in Supply Chain/ Finance or a relevant discipline on NQF7SA Drivers Licence.

Technical Knowledge

3-5 years of experience working in a complex environment and managing multiple internal and external stakeholder perspectives.Sound knowledge of systematic capabilities and systems materials planning, i.e., demand algorithms, statistical models, and operations.
