Job Summary:
To build a variety of boxes, crates and containers to pack for shipment a variety of parts, assemblies and
accessories, some of which will be classified as hazardous material. To provide for movement, storage,
and delivery of chemical supplies. Material Technician B may be required to perform the duties and
essential functions of Material Technician C.


Job Responsibilities:
• Builds special and standardized boxes, crates, or containers for parts and assemblies including
the design of blocking and bracing to assure parts are secure for shipping.
• Selects lumber or materials which meet established requirements and specifications, assembles
boxes, crates and containers as required.
• Read, interpret and comply with government regulations concerning hazardous material packing
and labeling.
• Selects appropriate packing materials for various parts and packs parts as securely as possible to
withstand method of transportation within the selected box, crate or container.
• Maintain a reference manual for packing and shipping of hazardous materials.
• Identifies, visually checks for damage, weighs and assembles shipments from sales orders,
shipping authorizations and packing sheets. Labels shipments as required.
• Uses a variety of power tools, woodworking equipment, hand tools, and simple measuring tools.
Operates material handling equipment, foam machine and pneumatic tools.
• Work closely with hazardous material/international shipper to ensure proper packing and shipping
of hazardous material.
• Plan and perform chemical supply group activities to receive materials such as ketone, acids,
compressed gas, lubricants, solvents, and other industrial chemicals. Apply knowledge of
chemical safety precautions.

• Load chemicals upon material handling equipment using care to avoid spills and damage to
containers. Use proper handling procedures for each type or category of chemical supply. Secure
loads with holding devices as required. Place empty containers in designated areas according to
company procedures.

• Transport and deliver chemical supplies to storage and delivery areas throughout the plant. Store
chemicals in designated or prescribed areas using care to stack and arrange supplies to avoid
container damage, spills, and interaction with other chemicals. Separate storage areas according
to chemical types and storage requirements. Follow handling precautions to deliver chemicals
throughout various plant areas. Maintain records according to company policies and procedures.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area.
• Responsible for the quality of own work.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Education:
Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification with
carpentry/woodworking included, to use simple arithmetic, such as addition of decimals and fractions,
simple drawings and ability to read and interpret laws and regulations regarding hazardous materials. Job
duties require knowledge of chemicals, ability to interpret specifications, and use of safety precautions.

Experience:
Over 1 year up to 3 years packer crater experience including diversified material handling, chemical
storage carpentry or related woodworking experience. Experience with packaging and shipping
hazardous material preferred.

Working Conditions:
Occasional exposure to weather, dust, dirt and noise.
