Material Handling Laborer

A material handling laborer is responsible for the efficient movement, storage, and tracking of materials within a facility or yard. They load and unload materials, operate equipment like forklifts, and ensure inventory accuracy. Material handlers play a crucial role in maintaining smooth operations by managing the flow of goods from receiving to distribution.
**Responsibilities**
+ This person will perform physical tasks to transport or store materials or merchandise.
+ Manually loading or unloading freight cars, trucks, or other transporting devices; unpacking, shelving, or placing items in proper storage locations; or transporting goods by hand truck, cart, or wheelbarrow.
+ Excluded from this definition are workers whose primary function involves:
+ Participating directly in the production of goods (e.g., moving items from one production station to another or placing them on or removing them from the production process).
+ Stocking merchandise for sale.
+ Counting or routing merchandise.
+ Operating a crane or heavy-duty motorized vehicle such as forklift or truck.
+ Loading and unloading ships (alongshore workers).
+ Traveling on trucks beyond the establishment's physical location to load or unload merchandise.
**Qualifications**
+ Familiarity with material handling or warehouse environment is often preferred and may be required for some roles.
+ Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
+ Must be able to pass a background check and attain security clearance if required.
+ Must be able to pass random drug testing (as required).
+ Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
+ Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
+ High school diploma or GED equivalent
