The Smurfit Westrock Ajax facility is looking for a Material Handler to work in the Distribution department. Reporting directly to the Distribution Supervisor and working closely with the Shift Supervisor the Material Handler is responsible for the offloading of box cars/trucks of rolls and loading presses.
The Ajax packaging facility, where these positions are based, is one of the largest employers in Ajax and Durham Region. We provide innovative packaging solutions to the beverage market and serve name brand customers such as Coca Cola, Pepsi, Labatt and Molson to name a few.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
Material Handling - External 45%
Load finished goods on truck to be shipped to the customers.Responsible for filling out/recording all product movement in BPCS system.Unload materials received from suppliers and deliver to appropriate department.Unload Board from railcars or trucks and place in location or stage at presses.
Material Handling - Internal 45%
Place rolls in line for presses as required to ensure constant operationCommunicate with Distribution Supervisor, Warehouse Leadhand, and Cycle Counter to ensure proper placement of inventory and entry into the BPCS system.
Housekeeping 10%
Perform general maintenance of warehouse or notify maintenance department if necessary.Change propane or forklift/clamp truck and fill oil as required.Sweep and clean warehouse floor.Complete daily forklift inspection sheet.Re-pile good quality skids outside.
What you need to succeed:
Must be Safety conscious and work with a high level of hazard awareness.3-5 years experience in all areas of material handling in a distribution and warehouse environment (i.e. roll handling, order picking, WIP, finished goods, outside warehousing)Recognized Forklift License preferred Basic computer skills required (ie. Microsoft Office, BPCS)Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work under limited supervision.Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.Must be able to maintain good attendance and work in a "Team Environment".
Shift Schedule:
Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts including days, nights and weekends:
Days: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PMNights: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AMShifts rotate every two weeks and include weekends Shifts include continental pay premiums
