Material Handler

The Opportunity:

Avantor is seeking a highly motivated Material Handler for our Manati, PR location.

The Material Handler works in the warehouse performing basic functions to include but not limited to the following: Unloading trucks, Receiving, Stocking, Picking, De-trashing, Order processing, and shipping. Second level responsibilities to include, but not limited to the following: Inventory control (FIFO rotation, stock counts, cycle counts and manual monitoring of stock levels and usage). Work stock frequency reports to minimize picking and stocking cycle times, process return goods/ factory returns, material handling equipment checklist, maintenance and documentation. Other responsibilities could include the backup of site employees or drivers. The incumbent is also responsible for general or specific duties in the areas of housekeeping, Safety, Quality control, Continuous Improvement, and other tasks as assigned.

What we’re looking for 

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

A Valid Driver's License is required

Experience: 6 months of experience in a similar job

Some knowledge of computers (Microsoft Office - Outlook)

Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred

Ability to read/write and do basic math

Ability to sort

Basic safety knowledge

Ability to drive forklifts

Examines contents and compares with records, such as manifests, invoices, or orders, to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment.

Determines method and mode of shipment to customer requirements.

Prepares and expedites shipments: Determines labeling requirements including but not limited to: assembles and packs product containers, preparing and affixing shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information for cartons, skids or other storage devices in an accurate manner including any special labels that are customer required. Prepares all shipping documents in a timely and accurate manner. Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.

Prepares documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials.

Determines shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates.

Records shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting, and record-keeping purposes.

Contacts carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials.

Confers and corresponds with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.

Uses lift truck or hand trucks to convey, move or hoist materials to proper areas. In charge of daily inspections of forklifts.

Requisitions and stores shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock.

Participates in physical inventories process.

Participates in departmental or committees meetings

Delivers or routes materials to departments.

Packs, seals, labels, and affixes postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter. §

Processes RGA’s and informed Call Center customer credits to be process thru the system.

Processes merchandise discrepancies with local Inventory group.

Prepares monthly discrepancy report for the Operation Director.

In charge of quarantine merchandise schedule and coordinate with Univar for pickup and trash.

Special Project:

o Audits Third Party Transport Invoices.

o Spill Team Member

Interacts with associates, customers and vendors.

Possibility of free movement within VWR AI.

Handles packages; occasionally heavy.

Performs other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is exposed to an industrial warehouse environment. The associate works near moving mechanical machinery and noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The job requires working in heights, exposure to changes in temperature, driving equipment, and maybe exposed to dust, fumes, or gases. 

The associate is required to stand and walk for the majority of the working day. The physical requirements of the job are for associates to talk, hear, bend/stoop, squat, crawl, climb height, reach above shoulder height, crouch, kneel, balance, and push/pull. Furthermore, the job requires associates to lift/carry/push or pull up to 75 pounds with or without assistance.  Associates use both hands for 
repetitive actions such as grasping and manipulating as well as both feet for repetitive movement operating foots controls. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  

Other:  employee may be exposed to areas with Penicillin, Aspirin, Alcohol, Acetone and other fumes.
