MASTER MECHANIC - CARPENTRY
Job Summary: Perform advanced level tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, and renovations of campus buildings, systems, and equipment to include, but not limited to doors, windows, floors, ceilings, partitions, office equipment/furniture. Select materials and techniques used to safely maintain and repair systems operating within campus facilities. The position is considered to be essential during emergency situations and is subject to being requested to report to work. The incumbent will periodically be part of the on-call rotation as part of the structural team. Supervision: This position reports to the Supervisor of Structural and will receive day-to-day direction and guidance from the Assistant Supervisor of Structural. This position may provide guidance to various structural mechanics as appropriate. Job Responsibilities: Duties may include but are not limited to the following: + Review blueprints, building codes, specifications and sketches to compile a material list and determine work details and procedures. Fabricate structural components, casework, etc. in accordance with plan and field measurements. Order material as required by the project and approved by supervisor. + Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework, and trim. Hang and finish sheetrock and assist with roofing and glass related needs, when necessary. + Repair and replace damaged ceiling systems. + Completed work in accordance with established standards or required specifications. + Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment; participate in making minor repairs to keep equipment operational; inform supervisor of all equipment needing major repair work. + Assist in ensuring the security of vehicles, tools and other equipment. + Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area. Develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with the campus community. + Participate in review and evaluation of existing modes of operation and recommend methods for increased efficiency and cost reduction. + Participate in workshops, seminars, training sessions and staff meetings as directed. + Assume additional responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: A minimum of 5 years or 10,000 hours work experience as a carpenter. Familiarity with regulatory codes, schematics and blueprints, and ability to perform repair and installation. Good verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and ability to lift and carry 80 lbs. Experience and ability to operate a variety of power/hand tools and testing/measuring devices, and a valid driver’s license and adherence to the requirements set forth by the Office of Risk Management. Demonstrated ability to utilize various forms of technology, including software systems, computers, and tablets. Work Environment: Most of the work of the incumbent is carried out within a generally accessible, safe, indoor/outdoor environment. The incumbent must be able to operate power/hand tools used in day-to-day operation of duties. The incumbent may be required to use scaffolding, lifts, climb ladders, and stand for long periods of time while using power/hand tools and equipment.
