Market Risk – Data, Risk and Controls Specialist

The cornerstone of Morgan Stanley’s risk management philosophy is the execution of risk-adjusted returns through prudent risk-taking that protects Morgan Stanley’s capital base and franchise. Risk Management protects the firm from exposure to losses resulting from defaults by our lending and trading counterparties. The Risk Management Division is responsible for the independent identification, analysis, reporting and escalation of all market, credit and operational risk exposures arising from the Firm’s business activities, acting independently of business management and providing an effective challenge process.

You will: 

Participate in setting and executing data, risk and controls standards, framework, processes and requirements for the Market Risk Department and the Risk Management Division 

Participate in various data, risk and controls related strategic programs targeting strengthening the data quality control framework for owned or consumed by the Market Risk Department 

Deliver high quality management information to support senior stakeholders across the Firm in discussions and in the decision-making process for data, risk and controls related projects 

Support firmwide data strategy efforts in general and represent the interest of the Market Risk Department 

Interface and manage relationships with internal stakeholders within the wider Risk Management Division, the Technology Division and the Front Office 

You ideally have: 

Strong risk and control mindset 

Strong strategic and critical thinking 

Experience designing and testing data controls to ensure they are effective, measurable, and aligned with risk management standards 

Ability to work independently, proactively and taking ownership 

Attention to detail and prioritization skills 

Basic understanding of financial concepts, financial products and risk management 

Bachelor’s or higher degree in a quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Business Informatics or Mathematics 

Proficient in written and verbal communication (in English) 

You might also have: 

Familiarity with key regulatory frameworks such as BCBS 239 or FRTB, and how they apply to data and control practices in risk management 

Basic familiarity with handling and analyzing large datasets is favorable on at least one platform such as Excel, Python, SQL or PowerBI 

Basic understanding of Agile Principles 

Experience in UAT and in product development support 

Team Profile: The Market Risk Data Governance team is part of the Market Risk Department (a risk stripe within the Risk Management Division), leading the effort in setting market risk data standards and in data governance by partnering with several stakeholders. The team is the prime point of contact to identify and escalate thematic strategic data issues and projects to senior management while ensuring compliance with global regulations.
