As part of the Advanced Manufacturing team, the Manufacturing Quality Engineer will support PCBA and Storage Systems manufacturing by working closely with contract manufacturers, manufacturing engineering, design engineering, and supply chain. This role will support New Product Introductions, test process design, part quality issue investigation and resolution, factory transitions, and component qualification. This primary Manufacturing Quality Engineering position will cover mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical components with a heavy emphasis on PCBA/Systems manufacturing, test, quality, and qualification to assure an acceptable part quality for box build and PCBA parts for pilot and production builds at Contract Manufacturers.

 

Detailed Description

 

As part of the Advanced Manufacturing team, the Manufacturing Quality Engineer will support PCBA and Storage Systems manufacturing by working closely with contract manufacturers, manufacturing engineering, design engineering, and supply chain. This role will support New Product Introductions, test process design, part quality issue investigation and resolution, factory transitions, and component qualification. This primary Manufacturing Quality Engineering position will cover mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical components with a heavy emphasis on PCBA/Systems manufacturing, test, quality, and qualification to assure an acceptable part quality for box build and PCBA parts for pilot and production builds at Contract Manufacturers.

 

This position maintains documents associated with appropriate tasks including Supplier Quality Agreements, First Article reports, and other quality and engineering documents. Interfaces with and approves quotes and deviations. Maintains and approves process details and records for each printed circuit board assembly. This role performs other process and quality engineering duties, including owning process, cost, and efficiency improvement initiatives as required to support the business.

 

Responsibilities

Own the current PCBA/subassemblies/system integration test coverage records. Participate in PCBA/subassemblies/system test strategy design for new products. Identify and qualify new suppliers and components. Maintain supplier quality records and history. Drive Quality audits at Contract Manufacturer’s site. Perform Quality analysis on issues employing Quality Tools and methodologies (e.g. 8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys, SCARs, etc.) Work closely with the supply base and engineering to identify and solve quality problems. Assure acceptable Part Quality program at PCB, PCBA, and systems suppliers. Monitor PCBA, subassemblies, and system integration yields and assure process issues are worked and resolved. Assure acceptable Broker Buy and old-date Code quality work is performed. On site work at Contract Manufacturer’s site to perform Travel required depending upon business needs.

 

Required Education and Experience:

 

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field and 5+ years relevant experience. Experience with tier-1 Contract Manufacturing PCBA manufacturing, electronic system integration, manufacturing test, and DFX. Experience with Contract Manufacturing Quality Management Systems. Ability to define and document quality problems. Fluent in English along with excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Reporting and recordkeeping. Knowledge of MS Office tools/Jira/Confluence, etc. Familiarity with rework processes including BGA replacement. Ability to understand and approve cost associated with electronic assembly processes. Ability to audit assembly operations and factory site surveys. General knowledge of SMT and Through Hole soldering. Including equipment, material handling, tooling, thermal profiling, solder materials, etc. General understanding of IPC A-610, J-STD-001, and J-STD-006. General knowledge of electronic component handling and storage to include J-STD-020 and J-STD-033. General knowledge of static control and mitigation practices.

 

Desired Experience:

Working experience with Tape Library/Robotics and storage arrays. Knowledge of PCBA testing (ICT, Flying Probe, AOI, 5DX, FCT, etc.) processes. General knowledge of device level programming prior to solder insertion.
