The Manufacturing Planning and Control Manager is responsible for developing and managing integrated production planning and scheduling strategies that align customer demand with operational capacity, material availability, and delivery objectives for OEM products. This role ensures the accurate translation of sales forecasts and order intake into production and scheduling plans that enable efficient resource utilization, inventory control, and on-time fulfillment.
The ideal candidate is a proactive, analytical leader who excels at cross-functional collaboration and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with complex product configurations and dynamic scheduling needs.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field. Certified in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) preferred.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or supply chain roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership or planning-focused role. Experience in OEM, configure-to-order, or high-mix manufacturing environments preferred. Preferred qualifications include experience with ERP systems and advanced planning and scheduling tools; strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, BOM structures, routings, work center scheduling, and capacity constraints; experience scheduling production in a discrete manufacturing environment; demonstrated ability to balance strategic planning with practical, hands-on execution in a dynamic manufacturing environment; proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools; and a proven ability to lead in a fast-paced, high-mix, low-to-medium volume production setting.
Travel: Up to 25% depending on business needs.
Work Schedule: Typical work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Works a sufficient schedule to meet the expectations of the role.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Integrated Demand, Production Planning, and Scheduling:
Translate sales forecasts, customer orders, and historical trends into executable production and scheduling plans that align with plant capacity and material availability.Maintain a rolling planning and scheduling horizon to support visibility and adaptability.Coordinate production planning with procurement, manufacturing, and logistics teams to ensure plan feasibility and schedule execution.Slot orders in the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and generate detailed shop floor schedules that balance customer commitments with efficient use of resources.Develop and maintain production schedules that support takt time, reduce changeovers, and optimize flow across work centers.Monitor schedule adherence, proactively adjust schedules in response to demand fluctuations or operational constraints, and communicate changes across stakeholders.Capacity & Resource Management:
Perform long- and mid-term capacity planning based on forecasted demand and available labor/equipment resources.Identify potential resource constraints and collaborate with manufacturing leadership to develop mitigation strategies (e.g., staffing plans, outsourcing, shift alignment).Coordinate with Sales to align production capacity and scheduling with Capable-To-Promise (CTP) commitments.Ensure that the scheduling process supports a leveled and predictable production environment.Inventory & Material Strategy:
Define planning parameters for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods to support service levels and inventory targets.Partner with procurement and warehouse teams to manage inventory health, avoid shortages, and reduce excess or obsolete stock.Ensure scheduling logic aligns with material lead times and availability to prevent disruptions.SIOP Process Leadership:
Play a key role in the Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) process by preparing capacity, scheduling and supply readiness inputs.Collaborate with sales, operations, and finance to align production and scheduling plans with business objectives and customer commitments.Systems & Reporting:
Leverage ERP and advanced planning and scheduling tools to manage production and schedule plans, track performance metrics, and drive data-driven decision-making.Develop and maintain reports and dashboards to communicate key performance indicators (KPIs), capacity outlooks, schedule adherence, and inventory trends to leadership.Process Improvement & Systems:
Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives related to planning, scheduling, and material flow.Optimize scheduling rules, sequencing, and planning processes to improve throughput and responsiveness.Utilize ERP and scheduling tools to drive efficiency and visibility across the value stream.Team Leadership & Development:
Lead a team of planners and schedulers providing guidance, performance feedback, and development opportunities.Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the planning and control team.Performs other related duties as required and assigned.The job description and responsibilities described are intended to provide guidelines for job expectations and the employee's ability to perform the position described.
