The Manufacturing & Perso Equipment Maintenance Technician will be part of the Engineering & Maintenance team located in Burlington, Ontario, and will extend support and machine maintenance to the Production environment, minimizing downtime and supporting Machine Operators through technical problems they encounter on the machines related to quality, downtime, or performance. This Maintenance Technician will also fix mechanical, electrical, computer and firmware related problems in a high-paced, time-critical production environment, while coaching operators on problem solving at a basic level. This role plays a critical part in new product and technology introduction including roles from design to integration and testing while collaborating with other technical teams. As a technician, this role will be an ambassador representing Engineering & Maintenance to other teams and external parties, given assignments to lead critical projects, discussions, and activities within the plant.
Key Responsibilities:
\tFocus on performing preventative maintenance for the manufacturing lines, strictly following the schedule agenda approved by the production team.
\t\t\tAccompany technicians from outsourced companies in carrying out maintenance on equipment in the production environment.
\t\t\tProviding direct support with the integration of new equipment and technology introduced in the plant related to the production and packaging processes.
\t\t\tMaintaining manufacturing machinery systems in proper working order to ensure business continuity and minimize production downtime.
\t\t\tWork with computers and controllers to navigate through system menus and perform calibrations.
\t\t\tMonitor and action maintenance tickets created by the production team, maintain IMS inventory system, and support additional departmental software.
\t\t\tAttending weekly Maintenance team meetings and updating the team on assigned projects, tasks, and ongoing problems, utilizing the forum to discuss roadblocks and improving overall department performance.
\t\t\tFocusing on quality and working towards a goal of being World Class by continuously practicing Six Sigma-Lean manufacturing approach to monitoring, controlling, and improving the department’s key performance indicators.
\t\t\tWorking with other departments to enhance quality by participating in continuous improvement projects, finding new ways to reduce scrap and save costs.
\t\t\tCovering other shifts as needed with short notice to assist with operational needs.
\t\t\tProviding the Repair Training program for equipment repair using your experience with the equipment.
\t\t\tPerforming preliminary IT tasks, such as network troubleshooting, patching software, backing up machine systems, etc.
\t\t\tMaintaining a clean work environment and practicing the principles of 5S daily.
\t\t\tWorking on integrating the machines assigned to you into the production floor by planning their arrival, coordinating with the manufacturer, following up with support departments, electrical work, pre-start work, physical integration, and post implementation services.
\tMinimum Requirements:
\tA Degree in Engineering or equivalent college education with paired experience.
\t\t\tAt least 2 years of experience in working with repairing electro-mechanical equipment in a manufacturing environment.
\t\t\tAt least 2 years’ experience working with mechanical and electrical tools to troubleshoot and do repairs of equipment.
\t\t\tPrior experience working as either one of manufacturing technician, hands-on repairman, IT specialist, Automation mechanical technician, electrician, etc.
\t\t\tBe able to demonstrate a history of positive attitude.
\t\t\tExperience with reading and deciphering technical documentation, parts diagrams, etc.
\t\t\tExcellent team player with proven examples of achievements through collaboration; this is a crucial part of this role
\t\t\tSolid understanding of basic IT Networking, taking backups of machines, restoring computers.
\t\t\tProven ability to self-teach on equipment you are not formally trained on by accessing printed documentation (service manuals).
\t\t\tExperience with mechanical repairs, machine shop tools, key mechanical concepts and pneumatic systems
\t\t\tKnowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
\t\t\tExperience with reading and deciphering technical documentation, parts diagrams, etc.
\t\t\tProfessional attitude, able to work well in a fast-paced environment, self-motivated, a quick-learner, with ability to receive direction and feedback positively.
\t\t\tOrganized with strong attention to detail, time management skills, and problem-solving ability.
\tPreferred Qualifications:
\tFormal education or training with embossing machinery (Datacard/Matica equipment).
\t\t\tFormal education or training with mailing and packaging equipment (Bell & Howell or Pitney Bowes).
\t\t\tExperience working in Card Personalization Center and it’s regulatory requirements.
\t\t\tExperience with Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma continuous improvement processes like DMAIC.
\t\t\tExperience capturing and reporting on Key Performance Indices related to Maintenance.
\t\t\tExperience using Oracle or other Inventory Management ERP system for order placing and inventory control.
\t\t\tExperience coordinating work and project actions with vendors to their completion through follow-ups.
\t\t\tKnowledge to be able to read and review PLC, circuit logic, electrical repairs, and assessments
\t\t\tPrior experience working with other departments (Quality Assurance, New Product Introduction NPI, IT, and Logistics) to administer quality validations, ensure NPI processes followed, fulfill communication with logistics for shipping and receiving of engineering products.
\t\t\tDemonstrated experience in cost reduction initiatives.
\t\t\tDemonstrated experience in floor equipment layout manipulation and integration of new equipment.
\t\t\tKnowledge of industrial and safety regulations related to machinery such as OHSA regulations and electrical, building, and fire codes.
\t\t\tExperience with inventory management and control.
\t\t\tDemonstrated ability to take complex business process challenges and lead a team to evolve to a future state so it becomes a highly effective and efficient business process.
\tPhysical Demands:
This job is physically demanding with the need to repeatedly lift parts and machinery components. Component weights can range from 10 grams to 100kg+. For higher weights, teamwork is involved in lifting components to ensure the safety of all workers. Job requires the ability to move from machine to machine most of the time. Some portions of the job involve sitting for extended periods using a computer and Excel, and at times driving to other sites and vendors to pick up parts.
